I clean mine about every two days. I vape a dark DIY juice I make and it will carbon up the coil in my RSST over that time. I slip the SS mesh wick out, empty the tank, dry burn the coil off, then get the carbon off with a dental pick, slip the wick back in, check for hot spots, refill the tank, and go.

I use 26 kanthal in a 5/4 wrap for .7 ohm, and I don't re-coil until I start seeing ohms creep in the coil, which takes around a week. When it starts climbing up around .8 ohm it's time for a new coil.

I'm going to be using a Kanger Protank 2, how would I go about cleaning the coils and how long can I expect one coil to last me?

I always burned those stock coils out anywhere between 1 day and 3 days. I hate stock coils so I wrap my own. I've heard people get a lot more time out of them then I ever did.

If it costs 2 bucks to replace, and I've been using it for 1 to 2 weeks, I just replace it with a new one. I keep all the old ones with the intention of rebuilding/cleaning one day, but when I used to clean them, it was always a hassle. Just my opinion. I still keep them in the event of hard times.... (Coil hoarder). As well, I don't do all that sub ohm stuff, so the stock ones suit me fine. :)

I've been going 6 weeks now, and haven't had to change a coil yet on my dozen clearo types, with light liquids I usually just top them up but with the darker ones when empty, I clean the whole thing including the coil under hot running water, dry them off and let them stand for 30' before re-assembling and using again.

Hop on over to youtube, there's a lot of videos on coiling and cleaning PT II's. DO NOT just throw them away, even if you do not plan on rebuilding at this time. You might decide to on down the road like I did. You will be amazed at how much better a rebuilt coil is with some nice fluffy cotton in there. I take the new ones I have and yank that nasty silica out, compress the coils in and rewick with cotton now that I have discovered how much better the flavor and vapor is with cotton. A cleaned and dry burned coil can last for months, just don't dry burn with cotton in them....nasty.

I think my problem was cleaning them with vodka. I always drink too much when doing this... :)

Man, Ive got a lot to learn. I been vaping on my mvp 1.0 for around 2.5-3 yrs. Ive only changed wick & ?built in? coil once. The tank I bought after the mvp. It came with some extras, 2 or 3 replacement coil & wicks. The wicks seem awfully thick but pictures can be deceiving. I changed them out a few months ago. Ive never burnt thru a wick or had a coil burn out. I inadvertently hit on it when its burned up the juice with no problems except maybe burn taste. I think Ive got a 3 ml or whatever tank, its been so long I cant remember. I put about 15-20 drops in it to top off. I found it, VMNova. Its never giving me any kind of problem, been exceptionally durable. I just cleaned it for, well lets just say its been a long, long time. No suprise it was nasty, taste burnt, browned my juice, gross etc...etc. So from what Im reading My My, hey hey, coils dont die, they just fade away?! Cleaning it all up with q-tips really brought it back to life. I didnt pull the coil out, just cleaned whatever I could reach with the tank cylinder off, center stem coil & wick still attached. Much better cloud when I exhale, much less burnt taste when I draw on it. It looks like I ought to be ordering some coils and wick, maybe a cleaning on a regular basis? Is there anything else I need or should look for when I order? Im ordering a second itaste mvp, the 2.0 and a couple new tanks just like what Ive got. They dont seem problematic like others Ive read about here. Certain coils any better than others? Cotton wick seem desirable, should I look for that too? Thank You all in advance

I've been using the same coil in my protank 3 for about 3 weeks now and haven't felt or tasted any burning or gumming. I feel as if I should probably replace it soon just for the sake of doing it with the time period i've had the current one but it's not necessary at this point. At roughly 2$ a coil at my local B&M shop it's not a big deal to just replace them.

In my limited experience of vaping high VG juices the longer I leave a coil in place, the better it gets. 3 weeks ago I bought an MVP2 with a Kanger mini Pro 3 top, I washed the tank out before starting but still noticed a slightly metallic after taste, by about day 3 that metallic taste disappeared altogether and the coil seems to have improved over time, still using the same coil after almost 3 weeks vaping the same VG juice, I learned a good lesson which is never judge the merits of an e-liquid using a brand new tank, give it a few days at least.

I cleaned my coils on the weekend cause I was using a really dark juice and went to a much lighter one.. it helped get the flavor of the old juice out.. dont know how much longer they will last but atleast the old flavor was washed out.. use an old advil bottler with just hot water.. allowed it to soak overnight and then air dried for a day. Did a pat dry then dry burn. The wicks went from black to white immediately.. going to grab wick and coil and see how rebuilding goes later this week.
