As I said in my initial intro post, I'm awaiting two Kanger Evods for hubby and I - hopefully in 2 - 3 days we'll be vaping!

I think I've read and watched enough to get started in terms of filling it, charging, etc. I'm sure I'll need practice on the actual process of vaping though.

How often do you all recommend cleaning the tank and coil? I know this starter kit comes with 5 replacement coils? How long approximately do they last? Do you get significantly more use cleaning and re-using or do you just pitch the old one and replace it since they're relatively cheap?

I know I would have to clean it thoroughly if changing juice flavors/brands, but assuming using the same juice, what can I expect or does it depend on usage and juice type too much to say?

Thanks again :)

It does depend on juice type as to how long they last overall and in between cleanings.

I've experienced with clear juices that I can just top off for up to a couple of weeks before having to clean the coil while with darker juices I may have to clean them every couple of days.

I usually just put in a new coil and then clean and dry burn the old one and put it up for next time.

I recommend cleaning the tank out in between changing flavors unless they are similar flavors (fruit to fruit) in which they can actually taste quite amazing. If you are going from tobacco to bakery though I would recommend cleaning the tank out and running the coil head under some hot water. You can go the old school route and just let it air dry or you can try the dry burning method.

You can expect about 2 weeks give or take a few days on each coil if you aren't using too dark of liquids. Before I started rebuilding the coils in my heads I did the dry burn method and it would last a few more weeks after that before I needed to change them. I would say that you can just rotate your heads when you do a cleaning on the tank and let the one you just cleaned air dry and use one of the replacement heads in the mean while.

Also don't throw away the heads when they have lost their last bit of life. You will know they are completely done for when you constantly taste a burnt flavor or off putting flavor. You can save them and put them aside just in case one day you do decide that you want to try your hand at rebuilding them.

I'm sure you know this but when you are filling up your tank, make sure you let your wicks soak in the liquid before you start vaping a la sitting upright for around 3-5 minutes. You can also give a few primer puffs if you feel the need to do so. To do this you just attach to your battery and give a 2-3 puffs without pressing the button. This will draw liquid into the wicks via an air vacuum and it will make sure they are saturated.

The length of time your coil last can be determined by your use (juice, frequency, etc) but other things like quality control can come into play but regarding your question.

For ease of use, I have a rotation of coils that I use. My wife and I use the same coils so we keep about 5-6 rotating (you don't have to do that much). After one day of use, I put them in a small Tupperware container and once we have 3; I run them under really hot water and soak them in vodka for a few hours and let them dry for the day.

Once they die, I buy new ones. You will know they are dead by a lack of taste, burnt taste or lower vapor production

You could dry burn them, clean them with really hot water only, rebuild them but at about $1.5 each (give or take), it is easiest just to do what I do and then replace them.

My coils last approx 22-25ml of eliquid (I don't use days anymore as some people vape 1ml per day and some vape 15-20ml per day)

as far as cleaning goes I wipe out the 510/ego connection (inside and outside) on the battery EVERY time I take the clearo off to fill it.

I rinse out the clearo with hot tap water whenever I switch heads or switch flavors (I do have extra clearos and tanks for multiple flavors though) making sure everything is completely dry before refilling (and yes, I have used blow dryers to speed dry them before)

cleaning coils - rinse under hot tap water and let dry completely - some people use vodka or everclear to rinse heads out also - dry burning will help clear gunk off in some cases but to work effectively you do need to partially disassemble the head.

having backup clearos and coils is a must to be successful at switching off smoking

hope this helps

Thanks to all.

Rotating...duh!!! I'm sure that would've occurred to me eventually! LOL. I did watch PBusardo's video on the Kanger Evod and rebuilding the coil didn't look too difficult (of course, a lot of things don't look difficult when watching someone else do it!) But if cleaning and dry burning increase usage to a few weeks and the costs stays that low, I don't know if I'll bother trying the rebuilding thing.

We have a friend who is interested in how we do with the vaping and I know IF he gets into he'll become a master craftsman of these things, LOL, (that's just his personality/habits) so he could end up being our go-to guy for tweaking and modifications :)

Since I started vaping (with the help of a uncle) there has been 5 others in my family that have started. Not all have completely quit smoking (YET) but most of us have. :)
