Hey all,

More specifically, Do you judge an ejuice (at least first impressions) by its packaging, the Company's website, or the B&M storefront?

I have tried many online retailers and brands as well as 2 rather large B&M outfits here near Detroit Michigan that offer many homemade flavors. I tend to think that a glass bottle with the cap sealed in hot wax will have better chances of tasting better than the small, plastic bottle with a hand written label handed to me by the person at the local store who just mixed it for me on the spot.

I am really into bakery/cake/cream/caramel/brown sugar/maple flavor profiles, but every single one of those that I have tried from any retailer always has a weird aftertaste. There must be some common component. I tried HighBrow and Halo and was sadly disappointed with both (yes, properly steeped). I also only vape 0mg.

I know it's all subjective, (and I'm hoping i can be convinced otherwise) but I kinda think that the fancier bottles from fancier establishments have a better chance to tasting more spot-on. I mean, a $5 plastic bottle of yellow cake compared to a fancy, glass, wax sealed $15 bottle of the same - I would automatically think that the latter would be better..... I guess I am just trying to eliminate wasted attempts that just waste time and money.

Honestly, after trying a few dozen flavors the ONLY company I found that I can vape without hoping that the next puff will taste better, and more spot on than the last is FlavorZ by Joe. Specifically, the "Poppa" and "Strawberry Banana Smoothie" flavors. Granted, they are not the Bakery profiles I mentioned above, they BOTH have a hint of cream that round out each vape very nicely. There's NEVER been an aftertaste and each hit is consistent.

No other brand has done this for me, and this brand has TWO that I love - so they are doing something right, or "different" for that matter. Interestingly enough, I tried their pear/peach/brown sugar combo flavor, and something about the brown sugar tasted off to me. Not BAD, but off enough to make me not like it as much. Perhaps I'm destined to not like any caramel-y, brown sugary, maple-y anything - hah.

I was reading up on "Strix Elixirs" and may try them next also. Not sure why - something drew me in. But the $5 plus free shipping price scares me, lol.

Oh, I'm using an RSST with mesh wick on a Nemesis and a Provari 2.5 - I'll also toss some flavors in my Protanks (in the event that changes your reply/advice)

Thanks,

Matt!

No, I DIY juice. Used to buy progressive rock albums by their covers, though. But I will bet the farm that appealing e-juice gimmicks and labels and web sites have some impact. Just look at all the desert pics of actual food they use in place of a pic of a particular e-juice in a bottle -- sure that would be boring, but those yummy deserts make you want to buy the juice even more. Even the color of my drip tip is a psychological factor in my vaping. The color has to match the flavor or it "tastes off."

I'm not even going to attempt to recommend juice. I use to and some love what I love and some don't so it's too subjective.

As far as the plastic vs glass though I can't tell a difference other than I don't like the droppers in glass bottles because it's hard to get that last little bit out. Some of the best ejuice I've ever had was in plastic bottles and some of them were in glass. The container doesn't matter to me.

Have you given Ahlushion a try? Specifically their Blueberry Shortcake or Strawberry Shortcake?

I've got Blueberry and love it. When I first started ordering from Ahlusion, I wasn't sure whether I would like them, but I've since learned that Ahlusion truly does become amazing after a good steep, so when I like one of their juices (I usually start with 10 ml), I immediately order 30 or 60 mls to get it in and steeping before I use up what I have on hand.

I'd say that the bulk of my juices are from Ahlusion, though I just placed a pretty large order with a new vendor today (The Steam Co).

Thanks guys,

Yea, I'm less than an hour from Ahlusion, and actually just drove past it the other day (they were closed). I'll try them.

I realize that recommendations are tricky, but I look for trends and commonalities in the recommendations and use that ammo toward my final decision. For example, is 97% of people LOVE XX and 99% of people DESPISE YY, I'd try XX first if I was torn between both - that's all.

Thanks again,

Matt!

I definitely believe in (and choose accordingly) by the marketing. First off-I usually will only buy glass bottles. We don't know much about plastic seeping chemicals into the liquid (Chemical reaction), and I won't buy liquid that looks like its radioactive (artificial dyes added).

With that said, I also don't care for generic looking pictures for e liquids-I know it doesn't affect the flavor, but its hard to get a feel for a liquid by a generic title or picture. (Customer reviews are also very important-if there aren't any-I will probably wait to buy).

Websites that are generic also won't keep me on a page for long unless the liquid descriptions really jump out at me. I also feel that the time and effort put into the packaging shows how much time and effort the vendor has probably put into their liquid also.

I spent a goodly number of years as a Corporate America Marketroid and all I can say is, of course packaging matters.

Every single jot and tittle of presentation matters.

However, keep in mind: it only matters to the targeted market. If you don't care about the "cover" than you're not the person the marketroids had in mind when they designed the frou-frou. ;)

I'm pretty new to vaping. I've only been at it a couple months now. I've started to notice that the effort a company puts into the bottle and label is reflective of the product their selling. I bought some Vapor Bomb e liquid. They came in these cheap plastic bottles with a really cheap label haphazardly stuck on the bottle. The flavors were terrible, if there was a flavor at all. The liquid I started vaping on came in a nice, clean glass bottle with a nice, clean, professional label and it's still my favorite brand. I went to one local shop and sampled their liquid...in plastic bottles with cheap labels and I couldn't find a decent flavor. I went into my new favorite local brick and mortar shop..bought a bottle of Halo and 2 bottles of Quick Nic Juice. All in nice glass bottles with nice labels. All good liquid. It could be all in my head, or it might not. So, yes I definitely judge products based on packaging.

This is a very touchy subject. As far as judging a juice by the bottle, there's a couple ways to look at it. Some small boutique vendors are definitely putting more time and effort into their packaging and marketing than product development, but thankfully they are the extreme minority. Most vendors who make the extra effort to present their product in an enticing and show worthy manner have also spent the time refining their flavors to the point that even if you don't particularly like a certain flavor, you can still appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into it. IMHO it is a fairly safe bet to make a generalized assumption about a company's QUALITY by their packaging. Clean, simple, professional packaging usually represents the product inside. Eye catching, off the wall, gimmicky packaging, and opaque or strangely colored liquids are usually just that, a gimmick. As always, these are not all encompassing statements. I love Pluid, and it looks a whole lot like anti freeze, and comes in a nice glass bottle. Nicoticket makes some of my favorite flavors, and their juice comes in a fairly simple plastic bottle. YMMV

How about that "21st Century Schiziod Man" (who was that) if you used to buy progressive rock albums by their covers surely you know this one!

The best juices I've tasted were in plastic bottles. I ordered some fancy bottled ejuice before and it tasted like perfumed feet. Some juice makers spend more money on quality, tasty juice than the packaging. That may not be true for some... But I know from experience you can't judge a book by its cover.

Very true. My favorite juices come in the oh-so boring plastic, child safe screw top plastic squeeze bottles. I don't care how it looks. As long as it tastes good, is made with quality and safe ingredients, and the vendor is accessible and provides kind customer service.

I'm sure there is exquisitely tasting e-liquid that comes in pretty, hand-faceted, leaded glass bottles hand packed under a solstice moon by barefoot vestal virgins. I'm sure there's just as many that are given the same treatment and taste like a hobo smells. That said, I don't like to pay for "looks," since I'm going to just put that right into one of my plain plastic squeeze bottles, anyway. And I'm cheap, but discerning. I'll pay for quality flavorings, but not for gimmicky packaging/marketing.

The thing is-all of these e liquids cost about the same to make. Sure there is some expensive added when they are organic, non artificial etc....but with that said, there is a large profit margin. So why shouldn't they put them in a safe nice looking glass bottle and while they are at it, a nice label? And one of my biggest pet peeves? No dripper with glass bottles-put a dropper in it!

I do care about presentation, and about websites too.

For instance:

~I don't like websites that look carelessly constructed, or in which the copy is barely literate. I figure if they can't be bothered to figure out the spelling of "espresso," they probably can't be bothered to make juice properly either.

~ I don't like websites overflowing with exaggerated, pretentious claims about how the product will change my life forever. It's a juice company, for Pete's sake. I'm not looking for a new BFF.

~ I prefer glass bottles, but I'll transfer liquid to glass myself so long as they don't use that horrible, flabby plastic that goes all soft and squishy. That stuff is revolting, and I can't believe it's safe.

~ I don't like websites full of cartoon characters. Or skulls dripping with blood, or anything with the word "zombie" in it.

~ I don't like websites whose owners apparently think they're doing you a huge favor by selling you stuff. You know the ones I mean.

:)
