Howzit brah
If I had a zapper I would consider doing it but IMO it's not too hard to work with twisted legs or even nothing at all and just chance um. Are you running into burning the grommet problems now?
For twisted legs you should make them before wrapping the coil.
Hoooowzit!
I've tried the twisted legs and it didn't work for me for some reason.
I believe the problem was because I was trying to build LR
coils. With 4-turns of 32 gauge Kanthal I'd get 1.7-1.8 Ohms but I noticed that when I did a dry burn, all the coils lit up really quickly and down the legs, too. What helped me was building a 7-turn coil with the same wick and wire. I got a 2.3-Ohm coil.
I dry-burned at the same wattage (~8W) and noticed that the 5 inner coils lit up quickly but it took quite a long pulse to get all 7 to light up and threaten the grommet. So I'm guessing the added coils are helping me out.
So while this has solved my immediate problem, I am also not able to use my EVODs on my 3.7V ego batteries. I don't use them much but I'd like the option of keeping them and not having to have different heads/
tanks for different batts.
So if I can get a solution that brings me down to about 1.7-1.8 Ohms it would be ideal but not necessary.
I looked up the stats for 32awg Kanthal A-1 wire. I'm able to do a 7-wrap coil and get very consistent 2.3-Ohm. According to the wire statistics I've found, the same length of 31awg Kanthal A-1 wire would be a decrease of 25% resistance.
So I'm thinking if I can get a 7-wrap coil of 31awg Kanthal A-1 it would bring me down to 1.725-Ohms (theoretically) and may also resolve the issue of the hot legs and burned grommets so I can use it on my 3.7V batts as well. But since the 31 awg is bigger than the 32 awg I'm not sure if I can get all those coils to fit nicely.
I guess it's an experiement. I just ordered the 31 awg Kanthal and will see what's up later!
