Does anyone else get really inconsistent cartomizers?

I had a batch from CCV. I think it was a weird shipment. They weren't in plastic. They weren't in boxes. One hole was punched by hand. Which is irrelevant but they didn't work well, most of them flooded in the tank very quickly and got thrown away. Otherwise I think they got skunky quickly and just lasted a few days. I didn't order more.

I find carto quality to be very consistent. I have used single coil Smoktech (not Smok Tek) LR XL cartos in stainless steel for over a year now. The one variable I find in Smoktech LR XL cartos is fluid capacity. All will hold the claimed 1.8 ml but some may hold up to 30% more. It varies from carto to carto.

I purchased a batch of Smoktech 1.7 ohm LR XLs from CCV once a year ago and they were fine.

I have purchased batches of Smoktech 2.0 and 1.7 ohm LR XL from Hoosier e-cig Supply a number of times. No problems at all.

Also purchased Smoktech LR XL 2.0 ohm from 310vapers last summer. Those were great, too.

I've tried Kanger, Boge, Smoktech and Ikenvape...all sorts and sizes and different resistances etc. on many different devices. It comes down to the luck of the draw. ALL of them will have the occasional gimpy one or out and out dud. It seems just about all of them go through patches where the QC is off and there'll be more bad ones than is optimum. Other times...they'll all be perfect. One never knows. It's upsetting when you are on a budget and it's the end of the month and you have to wait another week or two for any money to come in. What I do is...whenever I get a bit of spare cash...I invest in extra cartomizers to have on hand. Just in case. Of course some of those reserve extras may be duds too...but if you stockpile enough of them, hopefully you can get through okay.

This CCV 1.7ohm cartomizer I'm using right now needs refilled with 7 drops of juices ever dozen hits or so. And it's the last one I have until Monday so I'm screwed!
I believe those are Smoktech single coil 1.7 ohm XL. Yes, they burn hot and without a tank they need to be topped up frequently. I add 8 to no more than 12 drops to top off a 1.7 ohm.

Using a Smoktech 2.0 ohm LR XL without a tank gives me a lot more time between topping off. I can run those down to nearly 50% capacity without burning. I'm safe adding 20 drops to those for topping off. They run a little cooler than 1.7 ohm.

I got another kGo to compliment my Provari Mini. The mini is loud because it has no cone like the kGo. It bothers my partner. So I purchased another kGo because we are going on a roadtrip and it is quiet. The kGo is also much lighter. But I'm glad I got the Provari Mini because my old kGo only cut my analog consumption 85%. I haven't touched a real cig since I got the Mini and barely had any craving to do so.

If it's really getting that bad, and you're using just cartomizers, try refilling using the condom (shipping cap) method. My wife doesn't take the time to top off hers and she was complaining about several.. So I just acted like they were new and refilled from the bottom instead of topping them off for her. Worked like a charm.
