Hi everyone,
Ive been vaping for about five days now, so far so good! However my wife has started puffing on my 901 + Passthrough at home, she still smokes Royals. She claims that after puffing for a couple of minutes she craves food in a massive way, similar in fact to the symptoms of smoking a Jamaican Woodbine!!! (cannabis).

Anyone else feel hungry?

Thanks, Jim.

PS I am not encouraging people to start smoking wacky backy in an attempt to conduct a scientific experiment, just people who can 'Draw' from experience. (No pun intended lol).

Well, according to Ruyan research - extended period of exposure to PG vapor for mice didn't do much on health - but they consistently gained weight.... IIRC. ;)

I gained 8 pounds in the last 6 weeks while vaping and eating cake, drinking soda, etc. I'm not sure if it correlates to the vaping but I think there might be a small connection.

Well, a "side-effect" from quitting smoking is usually weight gain.

When smoking analogs, I found that they did handily suppressing appetite. Whenever I've quit I have noticed I'd eat more than usual, I think both from return of appetite from not smoking, but also something to do with my hands and mouth at the same time.

With vaping, I have improved appetite, and my palette is starting to return as well. Though, I'm not usually hungry after vaping, but I do get really thirsty, so I drink fluids more often.

yes im more hungry since starting to vape last week...i also feel more like a drug addict now with vaping because between the munchies and my "tin cookie can" full of vaping paraphernalia...well you know what i mean im sure...its a little weird and i dont like it.

What is this effect it has on mice?...can you be more specific about what that report said?...i havent heard about that yet but it sounds troubling.

If anything it supresses my appetite - but then I'm on 36mg most of the day, so I've increased my nicotine consumption a bit since I lost the analogs.
If you're vaping weak juice in fruity, tasty flavours, it may be the flavour that's making your body think of food (especially if you have a naturally sweet tooth,) and overcoming the suppression that might be expected from a decent nicotine dose.
What sort of munchies are you getting? Craving sweet or savoury?

What about that ill effect PG has on mice? can anyone elaborate on that?

I can't find anything on mice (most of the research on them seems to have been done using much more toxic glycol methyl ethers), but in humans "Its actions are similar to those of ethanol (thrice weaker) although it is only one-third as potent"

and

"Estimated acceptable daily intake: up to 25 mg propylene glycol per kg body weight (Seventeenth Report of the FAO/WHO Expert Committee, 1974)."

That would be 25mg x 70kg for an average adult male = 1.75g - you'd have to drink the stuff to get that much. And the same source (Propylene glycol (PIM 443)) states, inhalation is "not relevant" as a route of entry:

5. ROUTES OF ENTRY

5.1 Oral

Several oral drug formulations contain propylene glycol
as a solvent but may cause poisoning only after repeated
ingestion (Arulanantham & Genel, 1978; Martin & Finberg,
1970).

5.2 Inhalation

Not relevant.

5.3 Dermal

When applied as a topical formulation it may
occasionally irritate the skin and cause hypersensitivity
reactions (Fisher,1978; Adams & Maibach, 1985).
Mild lactic acidosis has been reported in an infant treated
topically with a cream for burns containing propylene glycol
(Yu et al, 1985). Serum hyperosmolality occurred in patients
with burns when large areas of damaged skin were covered with
sulfadiazine cream containing propylene glycol (Kulich et al,
1980; Fligner et al, 1985).

5.4 Eye

Eye irritation without further sequelae has been
reported (Reinhardt et al, 1978).

5.5 Parenteral

Generalized symptoms and signs of propylene glycol
poisoning were reported after intramuscular or intravenous
injections of drugs containing significant amounts of
propylene glycol as a solvent. The drugs involved were
solutions of benzodiazepines (Hegarty & Dundee, 1977),
nitroglycerin (Demey et al, 1984; Demey et al, 1988), and
phenytoin (Karliner, 1967; Voigt, 1968).

5.6 Other

Ear: There is a risk that instillation of propylene
glycol into the middle ear in patients with defects of the
tympanic membrane may cause cochlear toxicity, according to
animal data (Morizono et al, 1980).

By rights I should lose weight - no more getting up in the night to cough and read and have toast and tea with another couple of ciggies!!!

"Well, according to Ruyan research - extended period of exposure to PG vapor for mice didn't do much on health - but they consistently gained weight.... IIRC. ;-)"

Perhaps they were underweight before going on to PG from the stress of smoking 40 a day. :sneaky:
