Does lower nic level = less harshness?

Not sure if this is the right place for this. Anyway, my setup is a halo triton starter kit. I've been vaping for 4 days now. Maybe it's just me but every e juice I've tried has been really harsh. I've only tried the halo e liquids and a couple others from a local vape shop.

A couple of them make me cough my .... off. My nic level in all of them is 18mg. I'm just wondering if I should go down to 12mg or if that's even the problem. What do you fellers think?

lower nic level is less harsh.

Too much power to the coil or if the coil is dry will also produce harshness due to burning of the liquid; very bad, toxic.

If it just tastes harsh but not toxic then it's the nicotine.
High pg ratio highlights the nicotine.

High nic = bigger throat hit, but higher PG ratio also = bigger throat hit.
So you can go for a lower nic level or a higher VG juice or both.
If you've only just given up smoking then some coughing can be expected - there's all kinds of symptoms which are due to giving up smoking rather than using an ecig.

I vape 18mg, and when I first started vaping, I was at 24mg. I thought that was harsh, but my body adjusted to it. I went down a nic level and I have noticed a decrease. However, if you are new to vaping I would caution you going down to 12mg if you were smoking a lot of cigarettes. You may not get enough satifation from 12mg, but then maybe you would! Your body will let you know. If 12mg isn't enough for you, your mod will be glued to your lips, lol. That's my experience.

Best of luck to you, and congratulations on quitting smoking!

My advice is to wait it out first and do not smoke. After a few days of your throat healing and getting used to the vapor, chances are, you will be fine.

People told me to lower my nic and I wasted money and eventually went back to cigarettes. Second time, I just toughed it out and now I can even lung hit 24mg.

Yes, along with the amount of power (watts) and type of draw, I believe. Inhaling directly to the lungs can be hot/harsh feeling. I inhale into my mouth first.

Hope helps

I'm given to understand the coil for the kit I have is 2.2 - 2.4 ohms. When I first started vaping I was inhaling directly into the lungs. I guess after 25 years of smoking it was just second nature. I'm starting to take slow drags into my mouth then inhaling. It does help some.

Yeah, I think that's part of the problem. Halo e juices are blended at a higher pg to vg ratio. They don't give the exact number, they just say it's a significantly higher pg blend. I think I'm going to try a 50/50 blend and see how that goes. You also bring up a good point about the coughing from recently quitting. It's been 4 days since I've had an analog. Thanks for the link, I'll definitely check that out.

Yeah I think I'm gonna hold off on going to 12mg and try a 50/50 or maybe even 70/30 before I drop down. I guess I "averaged" about 25 cigs a day, so a pack and a quarter if you will. I smoked a lot more at work than I did at home. I also read somewhere that 24mg were equal to full flavor/unfiltered cigs, 18 = full flavor, 12 = lights. I have no idea if there's any truth to that.

That's a good point, too. Although I haven't smoked an analog at all since Saturday morning before the mail arrived with my kit. But yeah, I think this new experience will take some getting used to. Bottom line to me is that it's a heck of a lot healthier than all the tar and 8,000 chemicals that come with analogs.

It does take some getting used to and just like how most of us choked when we first started smoking, many of us choke from vapor since yet again, were inhaling a foreign substance that our lungs all over again.

When I started vaping, I choked regardless of nic level.
