does stainless wire coils always need to be spaced?

Contact coils are fine with SS
Agreed.
I can only speak on my experience with DNA chips but whether they're spaced, contact, parallel, claptoned or fused clapton the chip seems to take them to the right temperature if you use the right TFR values. Wire Wizard will give you the TFR file for any build and any wrap. There usually isn't much difference but 316l is harder to TC than Ti and Ti harder than Ni200 so I use the TFR for that exact build.

I'm still building spaced coils with 316L SS wire for TC. In both Kayfun 4&5 and Eden Mods Rose 3 it works as it should. I found that TC especially on a DNA 200 mod did not work well. On an Evic Mini it would switch to Power mode out of a 316SS mode when using contact coils.

Keep those coils spaced IMO.

Hmmmm. That's wierd. We have the same mod and different opinions on this. I actually did 2 316l builds to test this out. As far as I can tell the temp of the vapor and performance in general on the mods part is the same.

Both are 3x 26g 316l cores with different wraps. The flavor and vapor density is different but temp feels right. I've been doing 316l TC builds on this thing since I got it and 500 degrees feels the same on any build.

Either way, in power mode it's ok to cantact so long as you fire out the hot spots.
Even spaced coils will act funky from time to time if the spacing is off a little and still need to be pulsed and tweaked.
I think what I'm trying to say is it's fine either way just make sure they heat evenly or the load will bounce in addition to a subpar vape.
