I have been vaping for about six months now.

The other day I was just thinking how much money I have saved myself using the E-cigs rather than analogs. I came to the conclusion that I have probably saved a BUNCH of money by not paying exhorbitant taxes that are levied on tobacco products.

If enough people stop using tobacco altogether, the government will lose a large portion of the cash cow it now enjoys.

My question is: Do you think there will be taxes levvied upon usage of vaping products? Seems to me they might create a deficit for themselves when they finally kill that cash cow.

There are several threads on here that discuss a Federal Bill that is being kicked around right now and yes it looks to tax nicotine. CASAA has info on it on their web page. Not likely this bill will pass in its current form but I would imagine it is only a matter of time before some bonehead in politics figures out a way to get their $$$$$$ they are losing from cig taxes.

BTW W.brooks welcome to ECF and happy vapes

Thanks for the welcome folks!
I had no idea that they had already classified E-cigs as a tobacco product. Most of the literature I have read is that E-cigs were a non tobacco product. Maybe I mis-read somwhere. Stands to reason.

The FDA tried to classify e-cigs as "drug", was challenged in court and lost, so called them tobacco products instead. My conspiracy tended mind thinks it was the plan all along - we want money!

Edit: the decision was in April 2011.

Theoretically, if ecigs are indeed safer than analogs, they should not need the money, right? After all, weren't we always told that the high taxes on cigs was to offset increased health care costs and tobacco cessation programs?

Too bad I was fooled. The latest thing they want to do with money from tobacco taxes is pay for some kind of program for the disabled. Of course, anyone who opposes this bill and the taxes will be made to look heartless because "why don't you care about the disabled you dirty selfish tobacco user?"

I hope you all click on the link of the front page and let your feelings known about this bill
