Hi Guys, these days I'm starting to use the drill bit + unoxidized mesh.

I just wrapped one coil and I'm getting, for the first 1 ~ 2 seconds, bubbles of eliquid (as if it was boiling) between my coils

It's a thick wick, 6 wraps of kanthal 28 for 1.3 ohms

I assume this is overwicking or a problem with the wick being too loose (too far from the coils, although I can see no gaps but I can pull the wick very easily)

Any recommendations?

regards
david

Hard to tell but it sounds to me like you have hot coils....Usually when I am finished with the sizing of the wick and insert it in the coil.....I pulse the power until all the coils are glowing evenly. If you did a good job it shouldn't take more than 10 seconds of pulsing.....usually it takes me less than 5 seconds. Then I put liquid in the tank and do 5 X 10 second burns while holding the device horizontal. With 28g kanthal you might need to do more than this to break in the coil.

I am assuming you have a mechanical device....so just do the pulsing very fast off/on...off/on. You will get all the coils glowing evenly in no time.....and then do the wet burns. Honestly with 28g wire it is worth your time to do 10 x 10 seconds wet burns and really break in the coils. JUst wait between the burns for the wick replenish with juice between the burns.

On these low ohm set ups another trick is to loosen the top nut on the positive post....this will raise the the resistance of the atty and will really smooth out the intial vape until the coil is broken in. I always wrap my positive post with at least a full turn and a half of wire so that I can loosen the top nut without the wire popping out.

YOur welcome....ONce you get the mechanical devices.....you'll see how much easier it is to set up on them. I just recently got my mechanical device honestly I don't see any advantage to the VV/VW devices as long as you get a good IMR battery....like the Panasonic or AW or the MNKE. As long as you swap out the 18650 battery every 3ml -4mlof juice you go through the consistency of the vape will be just as good using a Provari. My Vamo and Lavatube are just voltmeters now...they get no love.

unless i have been doing something wrong all this time, i believe that this is juice vaporizing on the wick. as i take off my top cap with juice in the tank and hold the device upright and fire the coils i see the juice bubbling a little between all my coils.
Agreed, the only time i don't get bubbles is when my wick isn't working and gets dry.

If you tilt horizontal and press the button you will get bubbling because the wick is over wicking and the extra juice is boiling. The only time I get bubbling in the vertical position is if I have some coils running hot. I don't know every one setup is so different and the juices we use are so different it is had to compare.

indeed, I seldom get those bubbles on my coils (using drill bit method). I actually messed with the coil a bit yesterday once my tank dried and now it's working quite good (thanks again EDO)

I MAY get a bit of bubbles below the coil itself for the first half a second (and much smaller ones), but not in the space in between one wrap and the next (the pitch space)

very true, more so then coils running hot, i would think it more of an overall over wicking issue, interesting non the less, never heard of this particular observation.

the drill bit trick never worked out well for me i always ended up with loose coils, ive been using the roley paper trick for a few weeks now and it has been working out pretty well for me i just burn the paper off and then rinse it with some juice before using.

I observed this when I first came to ECF. Folks hold the piece of wire in front of them & glow it from end to end. This just gets the wire hot but does not remove the tension. One must first put 'tension' on the wire & then glow the wire. This will stretch the wire thus removing tension. Otherwise, when coil is installed around the wick, upon firing coil the remaining tension is then released creating a loose coil. I actually observed this when using the preferred ECF method of removing tension . I got the coil nice & snug (without using tension when annealing)around wick & looking through a magnifying glass while firing coil,I observed tiny gaps form between wick/coil as the remaining tension is/was being released. By putting a little tension on wire while annealing, that problem was/is eliminated. The only way to remove tension when annealing wire,is by stretching the wire.
