I know this obviously isn't good for the battery, but I was just curious. It only fell into the water for maybe 5 seconds and I immediately shook it out to get what water I could from the green cover. There is still some water behind the green sleeve that it comes in. Should I toss the battery out? put it in rice and see if that works? Or just go ahead and use it?

I'd air it out somewhere warm and dry or try rice. Personally I've had all kinds of batteries shortly submerged or drenched in water from when I used to do RC.

I'd give it a few days then read it out with a multimeter check voltage and resistance. Compare that to what the specs should be as per Sony.

If you're not comfortable with that, I'd say it's not like the batteries are that expensive. Vtc4 runs me 7-8$ local.

I was an aviation electrician for 9yrs so I'm pretty good with electronics, worked with batteries daily, thermal runaway, fires, flooded etc. I'd do what feels safest for you & 8$ is easily worth your safety and peace of mind.

Yeah I appreciate all of the replies. The battery ended up leaking and overheating and ruining the tank on my kayfun and burning two small marks on my vanilla ss in my bag.

IF YOU DROP THESE IN WATER, EITHER LEAVE THEM IN WATER OR TOSS THEM OUT IMMEDIATELY. THIS COULD HAVE GOTTEN IN MY EYES OR DESTROYED MORE OF MY STUFF IN MY BAG. IT IS JUST A BATTERY.

Also, viper vape is selling them for 7.5 dollars incase anyone was looking for a really good deal.

put it in rice so asian tech support can be alerted to the situation and immediately repair it for you.

Jarbs, that is completely insensitive and totally racist.

I love it XD

But in all seriousness, I'd say rice bath it, or let it dry for a few days to a week. Check voltage/resistance, and if everyhting looks good, go gentle on it.

But, if you gt 8$ jsut buy a new one and toss the old one at lowes. The choice is yours!

how exactly did you get the cell dry under the shrink wrap in less than 10 hours since you posted the initial issue?

just trying to wrap my head around what might have happened.
