Okay, this is a basic electronics question. I have two mods I made. A simple 5v passthrough that uses a madvapes 5v 2a regulator just for the heck of it. A dual 14500 battery mod with a TI 5v regulator. I have found that my absolute sweet spot is 4.2v and I want to pretty much leave my mods intact as I am pleased with the safety of my designs. What I need to do is decide which is the safest and easiest method of dropping my voltage on my mods.

(1) Diode (or diodes in series)
(2) Resistor(s)
(3) Combination of Diode and Resistor

What do you experts think?

I would think one diode would do the trick. I am no expert on them but i did a bit of studying on them last week. The most efficient ones at a low voltage like a Schottky have a forward voltage drop of .2 volts. Silcone ones are about .7 volts drop which is in the area you looking for. Might be able to just add a resistor to the TI 5 volt reg if it is a ADJ model.

2 resistors to form a voltage divider would be the easiest solution

You are assuming he is using the adjustable version. The most frequently used on these forums have been the standard 5V 3 pin models, like in Robert's Detonator, the original SaberTouch, and countless others.

@ Mark

You could try one of these.

Which of the 3???

With a little luck about .7, maybe .8V drop. Otherwise you'll have to look into schottkys (as Java_Az noted), read specs sheets (different ones have different drops), buy on-line and spend a bunch more with shipping.

If you feel like experimenting this may also work.

Thanks O4 and WillyB, I am indeed using the standard 5v regulator, and not the adjustable. I do have a PTR08100WVD or whatever it is, that I am going to be using hopefully soon. Have to buy the rest of the components I need. That is going into my best mod yet. A thumb wheel VV mod with a mister bottle that will feed through a tube to a cart for accurate 1-2 drop drips per pump for a sort of regulated drip VV mod. Right now I am pulling my hair out trying to pick/find a good mod encasement. I do not want to use a plain old battery box for this. I want this MOD to outshine all my other ones. I may even go with wood, but that has been done now and done well. Possibly some of that new modeling compound stuff and I was thinking something that conforms to the shape of the hand, plus I would be able to do anything I want with juice placement, etc. I can't decide.
