As long as you have the original silica wick in place, there's no reason why you can't dry burn the coils after a general cleaning. The iClear silica wick in question will easily tolerate being cleaned with the flame from a Bernz-O-Matic torch... so heat from the coils will not be an issue.

If you've been using a dark juice, say a chocolate or similar juice with a good degree of color/flavoring/sediment... it's very possible that the heat from a dry burn will not be sufficient to carbonize the contamination on a coil/wick... allowing you to rinse or blow it off and obtain a clean coil/wick set.
You may require a higher temperature than the coils can provide. Along the lines of the previously mentioned torch.

Don't forget to remove the coil head - silicone top seal. ;-)
