After you clean your coil and wick, allow the wick to dry. Remove any silicon rings, nipples, or seals from the coil. Then you place it in the dry clearo with no top on and press the fire button for a few seconds. You'll see and smell a wisp of smoke come out. You may need to do it several times to get the black looking gunk on the wick and coil to turn grayish. Then, remove the coil and either blow or rinse it off and the coil/wick is ready to use again.

The purpose is to clean old, gunked up stuff that was not converted to vapor but instead formed a syrup in your wick. The syrupy leftovers prevents the coil from wicking properly and also tastes bad, often burnt. You dry burn it to turn it to ash so it can be easily removed.
