Dry Burning the Diver?

I need to burn the gunk off the coils of my Diver but it get SERIOUSLY hot & I'm afraid I'll damage the o-ring thingy. Am I just being paranoid? Also, I love this device, but am I the only one who hates messing w/wrapping R/NR coils? - YUK!!

FWIW, I wasn't sure if it was an o-ring or an insert, but upon closer inspection I found it was indeed an o-ring. I just carefully slipped it up & over the wicks, dry burned the coils, & reassembled. Easy peazy.
