I just purchased the Kanger Unitank with the Ego C Twist battery as my first set up. I am using nicotine-free e liquid at the moment and all was fine at first, a great vape. I have been using this for 1 day and am starting to get a very strong burnt taste & I'm not sure what is causing it. Any pointers on how I can fix this? I tried changing the battery and it helped a little but the taste is still there.

The problem is likely the coil itself, not the battery. I would recommend trying to clean the coil, and if that doesn't work (burn't taste is hard to get rid of), change the coil. Also, dump out any eliquid in the tank and wipe it out, because it is likely contaminated and will always taste burnt if you don't.

Try changing the atomizer head, or cleaning yours with alcohol. Sounds like you may have burnt it.

Always make sure you let your atomizer head "wick" for about 5-10 minutes before taking a puff.

Also use a q-tip and alcohol to clean the contact on the batteries.

And what voltage have you been using on the atomizer head?

What is your voltage? What is your coil resistance? Your device may be too high in terms of power which will give you more vapor production and consume more liquid, but can burn and kill the flavor. If you take your voltage2 (squared) and divide by resistance you get your power (in watts). You should be between 4 and 8 watts. Bold flavors tend to be ok with higher power but lighter flavors may not fair so well at the same high power. High power means the coil is hotter, thus your vapor is warmer so consider your flavor to power.
I have a ego-c and have clearo with 1.8 resistance. 3.7 volts squared divided by 1.8 comes to 7.6 watts, i usually do not have a problem with anything tasting burned unless ive been hitting it nonstop, not allowing the coil to cool down or for the wick material to wick more towards the coil.

Judging by you said charging the battery helped, that may be a wicking issue. let it be so that it can wick more between hits. If it's a new tank, make sure you let it wick plenty before first use, and try priming it too, but be careful not to flood, if you do blow out all the excess.
