So i recently started vaping, got a little box thingy and vaped for some time, it was ok then i started getting dry hits with that. Bought a new, bigger smok GX350 got dry hits immediately, changed coil still dry hits and leaking. I also poked holes in the wick, and it's not the liquids fault since i have multiple from different brands and they all give the same burnt taste. I might start smoking again cause of how complicated vaping is.

Vaping is only as complicated as you make it.

Starting with an actual 'starter' type setup usually helps, starting with high power sub ohm setups can lead to all sorts of frustrations & issues.
There is a slight learning curve when making the transition from cigs to vaping. Just like no one was a pro or even all that comfortable with smoking when they first started.

If using a replaceable atomizer head type delivery device the heads have to be replaced every so often, like every 10ml to 200ml of liquid vaped depending on quality of liquid. If using an RBA of some sort wicking material has to be changed & coil cleaned every now & then, again depending on liquid quality.

Dry hits come from - using too much power,,, - not thoroughly priming the head / wicking material before use - an o ring or seal damaged or missing / not making a proper seal - improper airflow setting & inhale technique for type of delivery device used - wicking problems due to o ring / seal leaks, liquid viscosity, coil gunk / wicking material clogging from sweeteners, some flavorings or any colorants.

Leaking is caused by - missing or damaged o ring or seal - atomizer head not firmly seated in base - too restrictive air flow / too strong of an inhale for airflow setting leading to flooding - lack of routine maintenance.

I might suggest, even though you have a big box mod already (which is fine, most mods and tanks are interchangeable these days, looking into a non-smok tank, they can be really difficult for a variety of reasons, including not all coils being yanked when they should be, difficulties priming and etc.

If you wish to stay sub0hm, I'd recommend a Crown Uwell tanks (the original if you can find it as it has the most coil variety, from quite low up to 1.2 resistance which could give you a "taste" of MTL vaping (although airflow and drip tip are set up for sub0m vaping but this tank has some flexibility in airflow options too). It gets great reviews from users and for flavor, generally. The coils tend to last.

If you want to try MTL vaping (higher resistance, less vapor, more cigarette like draw) you could also try a MTL tank on top, you just would be greatly reducing your wattage needs, which is totally fine. Sometimes MTL vaping is a bit easier on the system when starting out, although there are also many vapers who started out sub0hm and like it, so it's really just another option.

Some good MTL tanks that might work:: The nautilus 2, has coils 1.8 and 0.7 it's a small tank, but not a crazy thirsty tank. To avoid leaks, you MUST fill to the fill line. It was my quitting tank.

I sort of have a hunch you might enjoy the Innoken Zenith tank, it's 4 ml, easy topfill and good flavor (comes with 1.6 and 0.8 coils, the 1.6 coil has about a 2 tank break in period, the -0.8 is said to be a flavor monster out of the gate). Coils also last forever, airflow's pretty adjustable, and it's just a good, all around flavor tank. I am still vaping my original coil, I can't get it to die! LOL. But, that is a nice, solid, large MTL tank that would look good sitting on your smok mod.

I wish you luck.. It's really not fun fighting with one's equipment, no, and does tend to want a person to want to start smoking again, so I'd really, genuinely recommend trying a different tank as you are having trouble with the one you have, and I don't want to see you fighting with your equipment forever. . Good luck,

Anna

Welcome and glad you joined.
Hope you don't quit vaping, my consider starting simple. You mods are fine. All you need is a good MTL tank to start out.
"When buying your first kit, go with one of the older, reliable ones over a hyped-up newer one.
I would advise them to buy older well know devices with good reviews and to avoid buying something just because its trending. Someone just switching from tobacco cigarettes does not need a sub-ohm tank and a 150 watt box mod. Start out with a basic eGo type starter kit or if you want something a bit more advanced try an Aspire Nautilus Mini and an iStick 20 or 30."

All good advice given above. :thumb:

I might add a couple tips of my own:

Thoroughly "prime" your new coils. That doesn't mean just adding a few drops of e-liquid to the wick material. It means continue to add e-liquid until the wick is totally soaked. The cotton will look like a slushy drink when finished priming. It takes patience and time; do it right and you'll be rewarded with a nice vape.

When using a new coil head, give it time to "break in" before using your usual wattage setting. If the coil you're using has a suggested wattage range of say, 40 - 60 watts, start out around 35 watts for the first half of a tank. Then, add a few watts in increments until the vapor starts to taste a little burnt, then back down a few watts.

Take gentle, longer draws as opposed to short strong puffs.

If you chain vape, do occassional "primer puffs". This means sucking on the tank with no power on.

You can also do what I call a pulse puff. While taking a puff, count to three slowly. On the one and three count, use the fire button. Off the fire button on count two. You'll still get the same amount of vapor, but your allowing the wick a second to catch up with your chain vaping.
Dry hits or burnt taste usually results from not adequately priming the coil, not breaking in the coil, using too high of a wattage, chain vaping, or the wrong draw technique. This results in the cotton wick becoming dry which results in burning the cotton. Once the cotton is burnt, its ruined; and likely has made the entire tank taste like burnt e-liquid.
