Im running 2ohm dual coil cartomizers on my ego-c twist at 4.0-4.8v. But i've read a lot of people who are saying single coils are the way to go.
So far its not giving as much vapor or throat hit as i expected, and i need to puff about 3x more to be satisfied. I've also read that it's not good to run dual coils on a 650mah battery.
what do you guys think?
Dual Cartos vs Single Cartos: My Experience.
Three or so months back, after having used dual coil cartomizers exclusively in my tanks, I had become somewhat dissatisfied with them with an occassional burnt taste with my e-liquids. I was quite certain that the juice delivery to the heating coils was adequate, so I ruled that out as the reason. I wondered if it was a good time to try some single coil cartomizers in my tanks, so I did some personal research into dual coil vs single coil cartomizers on ECF.
What I found were opinions. Many people had switched from duals to singles, arguing that the dual coils didn't produce enough benefits to warrant their extra drain on battery life. There were others that preferred dual coils, of course. There were statements made that dual coils were developed to be able to provide more vapor production for fixed voltage PVs, via twice the number of coils within the cartomizer. However, there were skeptics to that statement who claimed that for a dual coil to really shine, voltages of 4.5v and higher were required. Contradictory theories? I thought so, too.
Long story made short, I decided to give single coils a trial. I switched out all of my dozen or so tanks to single coils...same brand, same ohm resistance, same number of holes. The verdict: I was and am impressed with the single coils. Same vapor production and flavor, no more burnt taste, and the expected increase in battery life. Your results may vary from mine.
I'm wondering, since with the dual coil cartos that one coil sits higher in the tube than the other, and since we know that because of gravity the juice tends to collect in the lower portion of the polyfill and leave the top appear to be dry, or at least not as moist with juice. I bet that occassionally the top coil doesn't stay wet enough and ends up burning the material that surrounds it, resulting in the burnt taste that I experienced occassionally. I've seen pictures of opened up cartos before that showed heating coils that had scorched the polyfill.
By the way, I'm using Ikenvape Platinum (2.5ohm) single coils and Smoktek 3.0ohm single coils on my Provari.
