Dual Coil worth it?

So I've had my Aertoank for a couple of weeks now. My experience went from "Well it's okay" to "Wow the flavour and the Vapor are just so... This is the best tank EVER" to "I'm going to throw this thing out of the window".

Jeez. I've been close to going to the shop and buying some analogs today because of this thing.

*calming down! calming down* Anyway, the issues seem to have started since I replaced one of my heads with one from a new pack of 5 that I'd bought - these are the dual coil PT3/Aerotank coils sold by Kanger (purchased from VapeEscape.co.uk). I've gone through 4 of the heads in around five to six days and I have the same issue with all of them: low vapour production, poor taste when compared to the heads that came with the tank and burnt taste at what my MVP tells me is just 8.5 Watts (which is low for a dual coil, I believe).

Anyway, because of the issues and to a bigger extent the COST of replacing these dual coil heads, I was thinking about venturing into DIY rebuilding of the coils. Now. Dual coils seems WAAAAAY too much bother for me at this stage, so I'm wondering if it would matter too much if I just did single coils?

Never done a rebuild of the coil before and have just begun making my own liquids. Will a single coil with lower ohms perform nearly as well? Or just as well?

Tell us more of your dual coil attempt. Tell us stories. We like stories...

Tell us of Ohms. Tell us of voltage. Tell us of Devices/batteries.

Tell us more....

;)

EDIT: MVP...1 or 2?

How many ohms on the dual coil heads?

Is is 100% VG juice? Do you thin it?

I see 8.5 watts....so that's 4.25 watts per coil. :(

Could be a wicking problem too....which is how you'd burn it even at 4.25 watts per coil.

I was just about to post a similar question! So sorry I'm not answering it but willing to give it a bump!

I'm thinking of buying an Aero tank but I'm not interested in running dual-coils...

I've become quite proficient at rebuilding single coil Kanger heads and I'm wondering if anyone has successfully figured out a way to put a single coil in a dual coil head without it having issues? I may get one and try it out... I wonder if a 2mm 28 gauge microcoil would fit with enough cotton to prevent leaks?

rsdntbplr - One thing to consider... I have seen some posts of people putting two extra rubber grommets on the top post of a single coil and it fits in an aero tank.

Sorry, I kinda rushed the post because I accidentally posted it at around 15 words long :/

I haven't ever attempted to rebuild a coil - I've just been using the dual coil ones made by Kanger. I got a lovely Vape using the two heads that came with the Aerotank, the problem seems to have started with the second in the five pack of replacement heads I've been using since those first two heads. I've heared rumours of "hit and miss" with the Kanger heads, but 3 out of 4 being bad heads/coils seems a bit unlikely to me.

I was asking about single coils because they're easier than dual coils to build, so was hoping that I wouldn't suffer too much if I did a single coil at 1.6 ohm instead of having to use 2ohm dual coils produces bŷ Kanger.

Using the MVP 2.0 with 50/50 RY-4 eLiquid. 2Ohm Kanger dual coil. Running at 9 Watts at the moment (according to the MVP 2), with very little vapour production and actually an alright taste. It's when I crank it further that I begin to get the burnt taste, even when I get a fair bit of Vapour.

Assuming you have a few old kanger heads around, take an old o-ring off and slide it onto the the new head between the grommet and the wick. It will take up the space of the missing second wick.

What does it vape like lowering to about 8 watts?

I use a dual coil (not the Kanger) on my mod and anything over 9watts is nasty to me (taste vanishes and the clouds are not worth mentioning)

I'm guessing you have tried rolling back the wattage, but if not, worth a shot..

Edit*

Re-read OP and single's match up well to duals in my experience. I'd lower the power on your setup, maybe buy a new batch of coils - if that doesn't work, try a single coil. Your battery may be a factor, but I'm not qualified to comment on that aspect..(thinking about dual coils, amp draw, etc..)

I used the adapter to allow espire coils on my protanks. I get huge plumes of warm vapor and incredible taste, much better than the protank. Don't know about the aero tank. Busardo has a review comparing several dual bottom coil tanks that is interesting. I think the warm vape carries the flavor better, but others like a cooler vape.--Hawk

I found the same thing with the Aspire ET-S BDC glassomizer ... I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread when I first received it. The stock coil was awesome, the best vape I have ever had with a device of this type, but the replacement coils  ... they all sucked. Everyone of them was a low vapor dud.

So I agree, I find dual bottom coils to be way overrated because apparently they are very difficult to reproduce with any modicum of consistency. I feel for your frustration.

Cool. I think knowing how to rebuild is a good thing.

Thanks for the reply above (post 5)...maybe the PT3 gang here will help more. IDK how the heck it managed to burn the juice unless it's a dry wick. Particularly at 4.25 - 4.50 watts per coil. But IDK how they make those coils either. 50/50 juice should be thin enough to wick.

I'd still check for pinched wicks. TheJohnG mentioned something about trying old heads and an o-ring too.

Maybe the new PT3 heats are....iffy.

As a desperation measure, if you don't find any pinched wicks....you could try thinning a SMALL amount of juice (like a 3 ml bottle) with 1 or two drops of water and see if that stops the burning. Once you get it wicking, you should be able to vape find and maybe even up the wattage.

Best guesses.

You should look up rip trippers on youtube and watch his video about the chimney coil. I did this in a dual coil body and it wanted to work great , but my wire wasnt low enough to get the right resistance. I got around 4ohms and thats just too much to run on my vision spinner. Rip says to use 28awg wire and I only have 32awg now. It can be done and work great from what youtube says though.

Screw it. I've ordered some Kanthal and some wick - when it arrives I'm going to wrap it so it's 1.8ohms SINGLE coil and I'll see how that goes.

You may want to chuck the wick and use cotton balls. This has been the ONLY thing that I can get to keep up with my heavy vaping. Then again I have come up with a way that isnt like the original design after messing enough with them. 2 bigger coils, only 2 wicks from cottonball. 2.2ohms and blows vape like crazy now! No more dry hits... Its good to just try different stuff and trial and error. I use the protank 3 with an air adjuster, until my igo-w and kayfun lite come in with my itaste SVD. If you didn't notice it, I am switching brands even though I have finally figured the problem out...... So much trial and practice to be done with them.

I did the same ... unfortunately I found it impossible to reinstall all the components without the polyfil liner getting jammed up ... so I took it out, and it works, and vapes ok, but it makes this weird sound from the e liquid getting sucked between the metal by the holes. :(
