So, for my first ever post here on ECF I would like to ask a question, post a rave, and share my first scary experience. First the question. I know this has probably been covered so you could just point me to a thread if you like. Do dual coil cartomizers work well on 5V? I just received a couple from mad vapes and since my 14500 batts are currently dead I haven't tried them on my 5v box mod from madvapes yet. They do however work really well on my ego T extended battery. Really great. Now, speaking of the ego-t battery, I lost one today. I work in a shop and frequently operate a forklift. Well I had an ego-t battery in my pocket connected to a debriged 306 LR atty that smoked itself while I was on the forklift. I think my leg must have activated the battery somehow and sent the atty into self destruct mode. It was really scary as I first smelled the sweet smell of Johnson's creek Tennessee Cured juice in the air (though I wasn't vaping), then felt a strange heat on my leg. Reaching in my pocket, ouch, uh-oh, big problem. I bravely reach in my pocket and start yanking out parts. First the drip tip, then the battery and atty which was glowing red and smoking. AHHHH I tried pressing the button on the ego battery to see if it was stuck on but quickly realized there was no saving it. I chucked the whole thing about 15 feet away to the ground fearing a battery explosion (of which I was reading up on yesterday!). No explosion, but a melted atty and dead battery. What a shame. It did perform like a champ. Anyways, I will be a little more careful about the contents of my pocket when I go out working... Now the rave. The 5V box mod from madvapes is awesome!!! Even though the threads of the 510 connecter are a little loose :( Can't wait to get my GLV-2. I hate waiting..... and I hope I can use my dual coil carts on it.

Hmm, these might be low resistance DC carto's. They definitely don't work with my madvapes 5v box mod. :(

The normal problem with using MOST low resistance cartomizers at 5V is that they use a very small coil to reduce the resistance but produce so much heat at 5V that the e-liquid just can't wick fast enough making it go dry and burn out. The new dual coil cartomizers actually have 2 heating elements wired in parallel which cuts the resistance in half but creates plenty of "surface area" to heat a larger amount of e-liquid and produce a nice thick, warm vapor.

Right now I'm using the same dual-coil carto at 6V that I had on my 1000mah eGo-T USB/passthru earlier and it is vaping like a champ! :D

That makes me think it might be my pv then. I've got a 5v box mod from madvapes and it just turns off with certain atomizers. I suspect it is doing this with LR atomizers and cartos.. Not sure though. It never shuts off with standard resistance attys though...

If it doesn't fire at all, most likely it's not making an electrical connection. QC on atties and cartos is all over the place, so you might need to try prying the center post up a bit to make a connection, or even consider trying it with an adapter. An LR atty or carto at 5V should still burn, you just risk running it dry and/or popping the coil.
