Where are you getting 5 volt batteries ?? I do not know of any >

Electronicstix megladon batt. It's 4 1/3 NIMH cells shrinkwrapped together and are 17650 in size. They come off the charger around ~5.5 and die somewhere close to 4.5. madvapes will be selling the same or very similar batt soon, too (I've been saying that for a couple of weeks.. I'm hoping Hoogie gets them in soon so I don't end up a liar). <sheepish grin> Electronicstix has a smaller version for the Mako Maksi too.

Custom 5 volt nimh batteries at ElectronicStix:

MOD BATTERIES

I run 1.5 ohm dual coil cartos at 3.7-4.2 volts on my Hello 016 batts and a couple of 2xAA 14500 box mods (the voltage depends on how fresh the charge is on the batteries).

I like them better at 4.2-4.8 on my VV box mods: Big Brother, Big Daddy, Big Splash (from Shan B.), Madvapes VV box. I can run them at 6 volts on the Big Brother with no burning, but flavor seems slightly diminished.

Interestingly, the duals won't fire at all on my two 5-volt regulated box mods. Apparently those regulators have current limiters.

That's OK, though, since I feel that performance of the dual coils at 4.2-4.5 volts is generally the sweet spot for me---like Baby Bear's porridge. Not too hot, not too cold---just right.

Lotsa snap, cracle and pop. Not hot at all, above average flavour, nice hit. Vapor is there while puffing but very little on exhale I find.

I'm going to drag my own thread off topic... But, how many of them have you used so far? I've had at least one per box that acted like that. Flavor but not much vapor. They aren't supposed to act like that and the good ones churn out way more vapor at 5.0v than they do at 3.7. I've dissected a couple and couldn't figure out why they do that. If the tube didn't get so hot, i would think that one coil wasn't firing. -- The first one I had that did that, I blamed the juice. I was wrong about that. I've since used the same juice in one that works right and it made great vapor at 5.0. -- It might be the paper the coils are wrapped in. It might not be touching the filler well enough to wick.

I'm still on my first.

Hey mwa - glad I found this thread - I have a v3 running @ 6v (3v AW LifePO4s) and a bunch of Riva batts - was just about ready to order the DCs and am now having second thoughts - my impression, without having a multi-meter or the technical knowledge, is that these wouldn't be recommended for the Rivas (destroy them) and that 6v would be just way too much wattage to these - in that the v3 is all mechanical, would I be better off ordering a couple 17670s before getting the DCs?? - Thanks
I can get my DC up to 4.7 when it is filled all the way up with liquid on my Provari, minute I go to 4.8 it error codes out on me. I used them at 5v with a 5v Batt, which comes off my charger hot at 5.4 so I did it there first, used it a bit and checked the batt every once in a while as it went down in voltage so I knew where I was at voltage wise, I then put it on my monkey Box with 2 aw LiFePO4's coming hot off my charger around 3.3 each so I was at 6.6 to the carto on a full charge and checked them every few pokes till it came down to 6v. Either way, bottom line is, 3.3-4.2 on the provari is there sweet spot and for me it is the lower end from 3.4-3.7 where I get the best performance, flavor, and all around vape with these DC's

The next one will probably be the one that blows your mind. The DCs are very efficient at atomization. They are able to produce a lot of vapor very quickly once they're up around 4.5+ volts. It's warm dense vapor but obviously better atomized than most because it does dissipate quickly. The density and temperature of the vapor around 5.2v is the closest thing I've found to how smoke felt. On my 6.0v batts, if they didn't tend to scorch juice, I think it would be even closer.

I've read several threads on the Smok Tech duel coils. Some folks are hitting them with 6v and loving it. Others say the vape is way to hot at that voltage and the juice tastes burnt. But they don't burn out or burn the filler. The coils divide the current and neither gets super hot so they don't burn out like you would think. I'm using them on my Joye ego and on an e-power at 3.7v. I really like them fine on both but on a five second pull, I hold the button for a full five seconds on the ego and about four on the e-power. Keep in mind that I prefer cool vapor and flavor.

Unless you have to have really warm vapor, you should be able to use them on your Riva if it's the older type that pulses the current like the Joye ego. If it's the newer type that runs at 3.7 with the new switch assembly, then I don't know because I haven't read any threads were someone has tried that. The problem is, if that isn't warm enough for you, going to 3.7 might not help that much and if you can get your v3 to 5v somehow that might suit you best.

Here's a good vid that demonstrates the durability of the duel coils. Slide it out to about 14:30 and watch as he destroys one. Then go back and watch other parts if you want to. It's a long video lol.

Keep in mind that I'm talking about the Smok Tech and I don't know about any thing else, such as the ones Madvapes sells.

Nhaler has some in stock showing a 2Ohm total resistance instead of the usual 1.5.
That might give a little more room to play with no?
I've ordered some to try on my Darwin. Will post results when they arrive :) Posting this now so the thread gets marked for me.

Just got my first sample...it's a clear one.
It measures out at 1.9ohms with a full load of juice (50/50/24mg Honeyville Desert Light).

Darwin tops it out at 5v and shows it pulling around 2.5amps (amps do vary slightly with each drag).
The lowest I can take it is 3.7v pulling around 1.9 amps.

Nice performance at all settings.
An interesting thing about the carto...
Taste and vape is similar across the board with this juice...the only thing that changes at 5v is it sizzles more and is warmer (probably uses more juice)...but the flavor and vapor amount is very consistant across the board.
