Dumb Question about Battery Life

If a battery is supposed to last eg 3 hours; is that 3 hours of vaping or 3 hours of having it connected to the e-cig?
I always have other batteries charged and ready to go but am wondering if leaving them ready and charged without using them also runs them down a bit so they're not going to be "fully" charged when I put them on?

Leaving them connected or sitting in a drawer won't run them down. Only when you are actually using the ecig does the voltage start to decrease.
