Dear DYI gurus ;-)
I started on a quest to find a good DYI formula to replicate 5pawns Bowden's mate. I just love this juice and it became my all day but at the price it is sold here in Europe (just a bit under 40 bucks!) I better change or find and alternative. Since I just started DYI, I gave it a try and found a formula on .................. based on peppermint, vanilla and chocolate but the result, at least using tfa flavors, was very far from the original. The taste of peppermint was just killing all other flavors ... Did anyone ever tried the same with success ?
thanks !

for reference the formula I used was:
8% Peppermint
6% French Vanilla
4% Vanilla Swirl
4% Double Chocolate
2% Koolada

I have never tried to replicate it. Lack of responses could easily be related to your direct question versus general support/suggestions.

I suggest that if the peppermint is too much, obviously lower it greatly... or try a different flavor that has the minty flavor you are looking for... actually, I would probably start by leaving the mint out completely and seeing how much of a 'missing something' feeling I was getting.

Tell you what though, send me a couple mLs, and I'll let you know if I like it (or how much) ;)

I seriously doubt they put menthol in it maybe 1% and that amount of peppermint would be very mint dominant.Your chocolate level needs to be maybe 2 % higher than the mint but I would start @ 50/50 choco / mint and taste or just get the andes mint ? I think the candy mint would taste better.
I think you need to try and find a very tasty french vanilla and you might find a good peppermint just not sure from the three I tried don't work.
I think they should start selling there in house natural flavor concentrates.

I made the discovery that many of the blends that can be had out there with 'chocolate' in the background is actually/most-probably TFA White Chocolate. White chocolate doesn't have that alkali-musty acrid 'brown' taste, but the creamy hit of something sweet and smooth but diffinately in the cocoa family? It doesn't get overrun by any of the added flavours and cuts the need for the vanilla's/custards/cheescakes. For me, it's THE mixer for copying Five Pawns stuff...just my opinion.

Getting the chocolate and vanilla down is the hard part, the mint is certainly not laced with koolada it is close to mint candy.

The closest I've come is a mixture of mint candy french vanilla deluxe, double chocolate dark, and AP at 0.25% or less just to augment the chocolate all from TFA. I believe I have a bit of white chocolate that I might toss in place of the chocolate I've tried in the past.

I'd like to see this one nailed down, it seems so simple.

I could not find any white chocolate so I decided to do many variation based on milk chocolate ou a fix between milk chocolate and double chocolate. I tried with a lower peppermint and as we'll with spearmint. As suggested I finally tried with no mint at all to see if the rest sounds right :)
5 5ml bottle are now stepping and I will come back to tell you which one actually tastes the closest :)

My next attempt at a Bowden's Mate inspired e-liquid will be as follows. Total flavor percentage is just 2% (I'm exploring very low flavor percentages)

98% VG 1mg/ml nicotine

0.625% Double chocolate clear
0.5% Mint candy
0.25% Hazelnut
0.125% English toffee
0.1% White chocolate
0.1% Mint chocolate chip (LA)
0.1% French vanilla deluxe
0.1% EM

All TFA unless noted otherwise.

I'll steep at least a portion of this for quite a while as I'm 100% sure I can vape this right after mixing. I'm looking forward to the steeped version though.

I personally don't like chocolate vapes for the most part but the few that were tolerable had more of a cocoa note than chocolate. If I remember correctly, Bowden's Mate was one of them. (I prefer Lazarous Vintage's version though)
I definitely agree with the ones who said to tone the peppermint way down. My favorite Peppermint is from Flavour Art and I use it at 1% and it's strong. (not overpowering but still strong) Cocoa from Flavour Art is good as well. Now that you're mentioning all this, I think I may try a mixture myself. For some reason around Christmas I crave chocolate minty things. (like the Peppermint Mocha from Starbucks)
