So I have had amazing experience with vaping so far and it's got me so excited I want to inspire others to vaping. In my efforts to educate others (mostly people who ask) I have recieved a mixed response. People either love it or they HATE IT. And man do people REALLY hate it! For instance, I posted 2 facebook updates. The first stating i hadnt had a cigarette 3 in days and then I stated I had discovered e-cigs and they are great. Every response I got was very negative. Somehow that post actually made people ANGRY at me! Granted there were some people that defended but still. The second one, I linked the library on this forum and posted "10 days without a cig". AGAIN! People just MAD HATING on e-cigs and specifically me for using them.

To me it's just ignorance and inferiority complexs run riot. I've actaully lost a lot of respect for some of the e-cig haters because of their ultra ignorance.

Have you had a similar experience and why do you think this happens?

Its funny because all the people that hate are either smokers or ex-smokers o_O

I'm also a recovering alcoholic/addict and I've been sober for 10 months. If I get asked to the bar or something and I respond with "I don't drink" I get the same reaction. I've now learned to conceal my sobriety because when I disclose it I tend to get attacked and people awkwardly defend themselves. Addiction is so vicious! It causes people to put up these outrageous aggresives defenses when no one is attacking them! It's funny how you can offer someone something and there own inferiority complex will not allow them to accept a gift. I have a very difficult time with people like that...

Vent session complete :)

The worst I've ever had was an uneducated fella telling me that nicotine was a carcinogen (false). He wouldn't believe otherwise.

Generally I don't get much reaction, due to being a relatively fit 240 lbs. and male. People tend to be scared of me. That, and I don't discuss it on facebook, where the "Greater Internet .......wad Theory" is in full effect.

Some people will search high and low to look for a reason as to why they are superior to someone else.
What exactly were they mad at?

I have not run into that reaction myself. Instead it's mostly curiosity.

I shouldnt say they were specifically mad at me but most repsonses were like

"your still smoking"

"thats a joke I cant believe you would do that"

"thats worse than cigarettes"

"your still addicted which is no better than cigarettes"

A couple people also made little jabs at me like "I've got a solution for ya, ram your head into the wall" and another was "your a liar"

whats the wad theory?

I've also noticed this type of thing on my music production forum. It runs rampant!

Someone will ask for opinions on a song and usually people are just complete .......s and are ridiculously critical. It's like the "internet behind the computer not afraid to put others down" theory :)

SO MANY TROLLS!!!

I'd try out the de-friend button.
I'm a 44-year-old "old guy", and so maybe my advice isn't relevant to the whole Facebook thing, but unless there are other social considerations in play here, I'd just kick 'em in the shin and move on.

My facebook declaration about transitioning to E-Cigs was well accepted. I really haven't had any haters. YET.. More people seem to think it is a NRT or they are just happy I'm not smoking real cigs.
I believe the haters are usually ex smokers or just the people that hate cigs and therefor pool e-cigs into the same category. When I was smoking, people use to be verbal about their intolerance to it. (which I can understand) but I would always tell that everyone has their own vices. (caffeine, alcohol, prescription medicine...etc)

My Wife just called and said that my youngest son called her asking if I had really quit tobacco by using the e-cig. She said yes, and she even has my last pack of smokes in her possession.
He has a bet with me that if I go 1 week (Weds 9PM est) he will switch to the ecig
I already told him to get his money ready.
I believe it in that firmly!

That does suck. I've gotten the negative responses as well, a lot when I worked at the hospital. Weird it was never the nurses or tech's nagging about it...usually maintenance and housekeeping...

Anyway, whatever. They can do what they want, and you do what you want. You are more educated on the subject of E cigs than they are, so you know more of what you're talking about. I've gotten all those responses, and I'm just like "I don't think so" or "No, not really" and go on for a second if they seem like they want an explanation. It get's annoying, so sometimes I don't. Either way, I get to do what I want to do, without the risks that accompany it. So...that's cool.

The Internet is a great way to make derogatory comments and be "shielded" from retaliation by that copper wire or fiber optic cable. They can say what they want with little consequence other than perhaps some flaming or negative comments. If people can not keep an open mind, I don't think you want to deal with them. It's your choice to do what you want and if they have a problem with it, probably the most polite thing a person could do is to say nothing at all. Usually the most vocal ones are the least secure in their own shoes.
I think it's great that there is actually a working option now for cutting out all the nasty stuff in cigarette smoke. People who are stupid enough to not understand that probably should have their computers impounded.

Thats interesting...The ONLY negative responses have been from people that I don't really respect or I wouldn't consider healthy or knowledgable, for whatever reason and every one has either been a current smoker or ex-smoke. Everyone that is a non-smoker is very positive about it.
