I didn't know Phil passed away until about 2 weeks ago. I had dnloaded the episodes from the start of this season watching a couple back to back here and there to get caught up. Knowing he had problems last season and watching him chain smoking I thought I should send him an ecig since it's been so easy for me to more or less give up cigs. And I was going to do it too. But that night I watched the episode where Phil caught Jake stealing drugs. And it was that night I found out Phil had passed back in Feb. Man, was I bummed out. Phil was my favorite captain on that show. I'm going to miss watching his antics. RIP.

I was all excited about posting today, I saw the show also and in between my bouts of crying I jumped up and said "he's vaping" my husband thinks I'm a nut job for crying about TV shows anyway, so he couldn't believe I noticed the ecig. I didnt think it was a 510, it looked like another brand and automatic, didnt see either of them pushing buttons.
And, what did the youngest son go to rehab for???? I never caught any news about him using "unspeakables".
I have been a fan of Deadliest Catch since the first season. Phil was always my fave. RIP Phil, and Good Luck to his sons!!!

Just before Phil had his stroke, he caught Jake in his cabin stealing his pain meds. It was episode 6 or 7 I believe.

Yeah, you might even say that the stress of it caused his stroke which I'm sure has crossed both of Phil's son's minds.

Pulmonary embolisms are usually followed by strokes within a year of it occurring. Mostly due to the blood thinners that are taken to dissolve the clot(s). Phil should have taken a year or more off. One can only imagine that the rise in Phil's blood pressure didn't help at all. You could tell he was very very upset about finding Jake stealing his meds.

Addiction aside I would not want to be in Jake's position because I know I would be blaming myself.

Finally watched that final episode and the After the Catch and it was very touching and emotional. Like so many, I really liked Phil and his crew. I think that Josh is going to be successful in trying to keep the boat and manage all of Phil's other business ventures (8 other businesses I think).

Either way Phil is already sadly missed and we wish his family nothing but the very best.
