Sorry if this is more of a question for the mod section - it seemed more appropriate here.

I can inhale huge clouds of vapor with "normal" atomizers, tanks, clearos, cartos, etc, with any type of juice at any normal voltage.

I have a couple of mod clones - a nemesis with patriot rda, and a valkyrie. I can only inhale the tiniest puff from them without coughing. I started with dual .5 ohm coils and can produce huge clouds of vapor, if I don't inhale. If there is any sweetness at all in the juice, it tastes like I dumped a bowl of sugar in my mouth and flavors that I normally like are so strong they are sickening. I have tried diluting sweet flavors 8:1 with vegetable glycerin (only using a tiny amount of e-juice with the glycerin) and the taste is now okay, but still makes me cough. I dilute non-sweet tobacco flavors at 5:1 and the taste is good, but still cough inducing. I have built coils at .75 ohm and only used a single one, and it's not that hot, but still the same result. Am I doing something wrong?

Do modders normally use really weak-flavored juice or dilute their juices and if not, how can they handle the extreme tastes and/or sweetness?

There's no law that says all coils must clock in ultra-low. I regularly build coils as high as 1.7 . . . . . . and nothing at all terrible happens.

When using a mechanical, wholly unregulated mod, the build is all you have to control the quality of the vape. If you don't like .5 (I know I don't!), it's definitely worth experimenting to see what you'd like better.

To calculate resistances quickly, try this:

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. I am going to build some coils with higher resistance and give them a try.

I typically use 12mg juice. The main reason I like dripping is to be able to change flavors often (and will drip one over the other) and like having an atty that doesn't clog and is easy to clean. I used to love Johnson Creek juices but have not used any in years since it always seemed to clog my attys so quickly. Now I will be able to use it again.

Hi, Susan.

We're talking about rebuildable dripping atomizers, or RDAs.

Crazy lots of jargon in the Wonderful World of Vaping, isn't there? I remember it being completely incomprehensible at first, but, believe it or not, one does get used to it.

Welcome to the forum!

:)

Good plan.

You might take a look at the cartos/clearos/tanks you've enjoyed in the past, and shoot for that resistance in your RDA builds. Of course you might well decide to go higher or lower in the end, but it would at least give you a place to start.

If you feel that sub-ohming gives you too strong of a throat hit or makes your flavors not enjoyable just start vaping at over 1ohm. Problem solved....

Thanks again for everyone's help. I am now using a single 1.8 coil with cotton wick and that works fine for both my unregulated mods and VV batts with any type of juice. I also got a mini Smok RDA (single coil), which only has a single small hole so the draw is not too airy, and this helps, too. It is my ideal solution since now I can use any type of juice, change flavors as much as I want, and don't have to worry about clogged attys.
