Some flavors have a color depending on the maker. Some vendors add some sort of dye. The few who do *usually* disclose that and also some provide a color free check box on any specific flavors.

Since we dont have full research on the safety of vaping - it is unknown whether or not those dyes are an issue. IMO I avoid them since I already have enough unknowns and I dont care if my liquid is or is not a color. :)

Food Coloring can be made naturally or, much like motor oil, it can be synthetic and made in a lab and loaded with preservatives to keep it stable.

You can do a search on Google for what natural food coloring is made of and then decide whether you want to vape it or not :). As an example, red dye or food coloring is often made from the cochineal insect, green is often made from chlorella algae, caramel coloring (used in many extracts and some flavoring) is made from caramelized sugar and so on. Personally I'd skip it using food coloring altogether and if there is the option to avoid it.

That said, Nicotine can fool you into thinking there's food coloring in your e-liquid when there's really not. As it oxidizes (from exposure to air and light), it'll react with the flavoring and deepen the color of the liquid. That, to me, is fine and a natural reaction, but as far as additives, I'll pass :).
