Hi,

I just purchased an addtional battery charger and battery for my 14650 1050mah 3.7 volt e-power.

the original charger that came with my kit was a 3.7 volt 300 ma.

The new charger is smk-ep005 for 18650 batteries, 4.2 v and 600ma.

I contacted the suppler and he states since my battery is 65mm the charger will work fine.

My question to you is:

Will this charger be safe to use with my 14650 batteries?

That charger should work just fine. I have the single battery charger that came with the ePower kit & a Trustfire Tr-001 dual unit charger which is 4.2V 500ma one. Both charge the 14650's just fine. My single battery charger also says it's 3.7V 300ma. The 600ma one will charge the battery slightly faster. You just don't want to use a charger that puts out too much voltage or capable of putting out too much current. These values are within the parameters of the 14650 batteries.

The original charger supplied by Smoktech for my E-Power 14650 is the single bay YL-103A. I've got seven of them. The charge output is 300mA.

I have also charged these protected 14650 batteries on my Trustfire TR-001 dual bay charger. This charger is 500mA. No problem. I don't like this charger for the protected 14650: the battery bays are too short for this battery.

The XTAR WP6 II is a highly rated-six bay charger. It charges at 600mA.

So, I don't think you have a problem with the 600mA charger if is designed to safely charge 3.7V ICR batteries like the 14650 used in the E-Power 14650. The control electronics are built to utilize the higher amperage without damaging the battery. It may actually charge faster than your original charger.

If you actually measure the length of the protected 14650 battery instead of guessing it's length by reading the battery size you will find that the battery actually measures closer to 69mm, not 65mm. I have both Smoktech and Trustfire Blue protected 14650s and they both measure 69mm. They fit snug, but fine in the Yl-103A charger but are really too long for the Trustfire TR-001.
