I have tried different flavors on atty/dripping and regular 510 cartos and on E2 XL cartos that I got yesterday. The regular 510 cartos have the best flavor, then stands the atty/drip and E2 XL cartos are the worst. There's just no flavor at all.
But for TH, E2 XL are the strongest, then atty/drip and then regular cartos.

I am wondering if others also get the same results. For example, my strawberry is awesome on regular cartos, but terrible taste and uncomfortable TH on E2 XL.

Another thing I noticed using dripping is that the flavor becomes bitter and TH stronger after 12 puffs. So I think it's the effect you get when there's just a small portion of liquid in the atty. Could this mean that E2 XL cartos do not provide enough liquid to the atty?

I also think that cartos have better flavor than dripping. I have not tried the E-2's. I use the Ego mega cartos and KR808 cartos without any burnt taste no matter how hard or how often I vape. They wick just fine as long as they are not almost out of juice. I've given dripping a good try, but I just keep going back to cartos.

I don't understand why the PTB mod would improve the performance. I mean in a regular carto, the filler or PTB is in direct contact with the atty coil, but in E2 XL the wick takes juice from the tank to the atty. What's the use for PTB if you already have a tank? or maybe PTB is in contact with the atty?

I also noticed that some juices get quite hot. My spearmint juice from Madvapes produces cool vapor, but espresso, and winston from FSUSA burn hot. I even wait for a minute before each puff. I take slow puffs, but 3 seconds into puffing and it's hot, 5 seconds my lips burn. I haven't had this experience with regular cartos with same juices. It could be due to the small distance between lips and the atty. I'll put a cart on top and try again and will report. I also measured the resistance, and all of them are around 2.4 ohms.

The whole point of switching to E2 XL for me is to avoid filler burning issues. It's plastic or polymer and it could be dangerous if burnt. But, the way these E2s work, it's frustrating. I wish I knew if I was doing something wrong.

You're right in that the PTB doesn't touch the heating coil. Out of the box though, the E2's rely on loops of the wick to bring juice up to the strand of wick that passes through the heating coil. By replacing these loops or "helping" them with PTB, juice seems to be delivered to the coil area of the wick inside the cup more rapidly, meaning the flavor is fuller since there's more juice being vaporized as you draw.

The other factor to me is that having the o-ring with slits for the wicks probably puts pressure that makes it harder for juice to get to the coil area. I replace the o-ring flat side down so that it creates a seal around the cup, but allows juice to flow freely up the PTB and then through the wick to the coil.

Even if all this didn't make any sense, my experience was that the flavor was much improved after modification.

Oh, and I'm using an eGo batt (3.2v effective) and/or a 3.7v PT.

You're right. After playing with these for two days, I know now that the carto must be always full. If the liquid level goes down in the cartomizer, the wick cannot supply enough juice, and taste changes. I added as much juice as I could, and the taste is great.

I'll try PTB also. Do I need to cut the wick, like described in the video, or could I get away without cutting it? and What's the function of the silicon o-ring?

I don't think you *need* to cut the wick, but it makes more room for juice :) Another option is to pull the wicks up, cut the loop but leave them attached to the coil part, and undo the weave (someone in the long thread came up with this, credit goes to them). Either way, I think you can get away without cutting it.

The O-ring is to prevent leaking, and normally sits with the "O" around the center cup. I put it back in flat side down instead of the middle ring (which is prolly there to make sure juice doesn't come out the fill holes...which doesn't happen anyway due to surface tension) because it has a larger diameter in the middle so air flows better. The middle ring would work just fine as well, flat side down.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the info. I did a ptb mod, and it works better. I did not remove or cut the wick. I took out the o-ring, and put two ptbs in the outer shell. I think I will need to fold the ptb on top a couple times to make it thicker (it probably would make better contact with the wick). I also put the o-ring upside down as you said. The vapor and taste are both better. The vapor is not as hot as it used to be, but taste would improve if it runs cooler. I'm open to ideas for that.
I removed the top silicon ring, I don't know what that is for. I also hold the carto upside down between puffs to have the juice flowing towards the coil.

Not sure if you have tried this or not.

But if you haven't, try pointing the battery end of the your PV up at a 45 degree angle when you vape. If you get a better hit then the carto isn't wicking fast enough. If so, you might want to consider doing the PTB mod.

A huge problem with the early E2 cartos has be inconsistent ohm resistence. Some came in with low ohms and they burned hot causing a burnt taste. Some came in with higher ohms and they didn't produce a great hit.

ALSO - BE SURE TO CHECK THE THREADS ON THE CARTO BEFORE YOU SCREW A NEW CARTO ONTO YOUR PV BATTERY.

Many members including myself have received cartos with smashed threads. This can ruin the threads on your battery or casue a dead short which will fry your battery innards.

Check out this photo to get and idea of what FUBAR threads look like. All of these are brand new cartos straight out of the box.

The second one from the left would have shorted out a battery in a millisecond.

Hi solarisx, interesting Thread. Thanks for starting it.

I just got my CE-2's yesterday and I'm using the KR808D-1 size. So far, no issues and no complaints. I have FSUSA Wyatt Earp in one carto (a rather thick e-liquid) and French Toast (a thinner liquid) in another carto and both are vaping just fine. In fact, some of the clouds of vapor are so thick I can't see my computer monitor.

A couple things helped me on the filling part. One was my wife's reading glasses so I could see the tiny little filling holes and the other ... I got a ball cap from Bass Pro Shop that has three LED's mounted IN the front of the hat for night fishing. When I refill the CE2 I put that ball cap on, turn on the lights, and can see everything! Works great.

I'm using 60% VG and 40% PG on the e-liquids and am getting great flavor, literally tons of vapor and a mild TH - but that's what I like.

I hope yours end up working well for you. I think these things are great and sure beats dripping, atty's and all that. And I especially like no burnt fiber filling!

I love the xl with PTB. I cut the loops but leave most of the wick AND use PTB in ALL of my E2s. Its just the way they were meant to be IMO. They ROCK!! I have them in higher ohm and use on a variable voltage mod (LittleSister from boxmods.net). Love playing with the different voltages with different juices. I have the E2s in reg ohm, and high ohm...and all are good but I like the higher ohm ones the best for 3.7volt vaping or higher. I even prefer the higher ohm ones on lower volt batts due to never ever having a burnt taste.

I highly recommend the E2s!!!

I also highly recommend the Little Sister for use with the E2s. I have NEVER been so happy with my vaping experience!!

Thanks for your kind responses. I took a couple days to play with these. What I found as you suggested:

- PTB mod definitely works better.
- Holding the e-cig, upside down helps wicking when the liquid level is low in the carto.
- VG does not work well. I think VG is quite thick and slows down wicking.
- Some juices still burn hot no matter what I do. I will appreciate your expertise on this.

C-E2 XL 510 Cartos from CoV, received Sat the 25th, ordered Wed the 22nd. Loaded um up with 1.8 mL 50/50 PG/VG. No primer taste at all. But, I"m using a pretty strong cinnamon juice. Don't know if it could mask the primer or not. Been vapin on it 6 hours pretty solid. No guts, threw another 1.5 mL juice in. Been doing the same routine day after day. Still goin strong. BB says he has R4 on order, may have already gotten some without knowing it. Hypo filling is a grandiose Pain In The ..., but, whattcha gonna do? This may be the carto I've been looking for. I don't drip and I don't chew, and I don't go with girls that do. And I've never met an atty I liked. Cartos is all I'm interested in vaping. A personal thing, you all vape how/what the hell ever you want. If you've gotum. . .smokum. So far I've used this carto on: RIVa, eGo, (650 & 900), ProVape, & Lil Sister, (click 2). If/when it starts gettin alittle sluggish. . .I'll crank up the Sis a notch or two and either clean it up or burn it up. A smidge over $2 a week for consumable hardware ain't bad. Thank you BB Bruce. . .I'm a happy camper.

Cheers,
otrpu
