Hi Di, I'll try to offer an explanation for you. Some in U.S. call this tongue in cheek humor.
I think this has to do with several decades ago, when I was a lad of 10 or 12. Many television shows poked fun at groups of visiting Japanese nationals, touring in groups, sightseeing all over the U.S. Every person had a camera on a strap around their neck, and they would all shuffle around in groups, taking the same pictures. I don't know if Eastern cultures can even perceive this as humor. From what I've seen they seem to have alot more humility. And I find that rather admirable.

I think it is your own responsibility to watch what you are doing,
and where you are walking -

my nephew stepped off the sidewalk while texting, - he got hit by a bus, and nearly died, -

I told him the same thing -

but i waited till he was better before i told him this -
