If you use an e-cigarette, please take note of this.

There is an unfortunate development in the U.S. state of Vermont.

The Vermont Human Services Committee is holding a hearing March 14, 2012
(this Wednesday) at 10:45AM to take testimony on a bill - H.747 @
The Vermont Legislative Bill Tracking System
It would ban all e-cig / etc. shipments within, into, and out of Vermont.

We urge you to contact the Human Services committee members (info below) to express your
opposition. Also, Vermont residents should consider attending or, if that
isn't possible, make sure to highlight that you are a Vermont resident in
any emails you send or calls you make.

If this bill passes in Vermont, it will provide a blueprint for other states to do the same and
must be stopped.

I think Vermont residents have a much higher value to them.... but 1000's of emails would be hard to ignore ;)

Do reps in Vermont care what a resident of California thinks? Naturally I'd be opposed to any ban, but doesn't the protest need to come from Vermont folks?

This is really a shame, I wished the entire vaping community could show up at this meeting and have about 10-20 delegates to speak for all of us and take all the time the floor is given on this matter. There has to be a way to beat Big tobacco & Big Pharma along with all the Anti's on this matter. I mean christ these Govt officials are supposed to be working for all of us, what a joke that really is, there ALL ON THE TAKE, ALL OF THEM, I'm convinced of it.

The bill states that "tobacco substitutes" are also subject to the ban, but only mentions e-cigarettes specifically:

“Tobacco substitute” means products including electronic cigarettes or other electronic or battery-powered devices that contain and are designed to deliver nicotine or other substances into the body through inhaling vapor and that have not been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration for tobacco cessation or other medical purposes."

Virtually anything can be "other substances," and I find it disingenuous to state such a vague description while only specifically singling out e-cigarettes as an example of "tobacco substitute."

As well, the devices themselves do not contain nicotine. This rationale is like saying that you may not purchase a pipe online because it's "designed" to hold tobacco, or banning whiskey bottles because they are "designed" to hold alcohol.

Btw if they ban e-cigs they also have to ban FOG MACHINES, they use the SAME chemicals and flavors and are made to be used in spaces with a lot of people.

Konstantine, you're assuming that there has to be consistency and rationality applied in the enforcement of laws.

You just lost 10 points. ;)

I think the burden should be on the lawmakers to prove that ecig users are either harming themselves or others! How many ecig users have you heard of that have died of an overdose of nicotine? I haven't heard of any! How many ecig users that have gotten in their cars and driven after or while using their ecigs have caused an accident or killed anyone because of their ecig use? I bet the number is zero! How many people have died as a result of overdosing on prescription drugs? I bet there's some in the state of Vermont! How many drinkers have killed themselves or others while driving drunk in the state of Vermont? I think they should ban prescription drugs and alcohol and leave the ecig users alone!
