Hello everyone, brand new member and my first post. Hopefully this will be my go-to resource in the future! I did some searching and couldn't find any useful advice, so apologies if I've missed something obvious.

I've only been vaping a couple of months, a Kangertech EVOD, and over the past couple of days I'm getting a really strong, sickly sweet taste, with less vapour produced and the juice running out faster. I'm trying a new flavour, Blueberry, and the coil is only a week old. Everything was fine for the first few days, but the change has been quite sudden. I tried a new coil this morning but still the problem persists. I tried searching round the web but could only find advice on the 'burnt taste' problem. I've had that before and it's nothing like that.

I'm pretty clueless as to how these things work and have just been winging it since I first started and luckily I haven't had any problems until now. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi, thanks for the response.

I had to google what VG/PG meant (told you I was new to this :)), and on reading the bottle, it just lists both in the ingredients, no ratio is given.

Regardless, I made no changes. The coil and juice were new as of last Saturday, same nic content I've always used. The first few days were fine and despite changing nothing else, the taste has changed quite dramatically in just the last day or two. It's almost too unpleasant to even bother with now, but I'm still using it as it's all I have. I haven't had an analog in weeks and don't want to go back, so really want to get this sorted.

Back when I was using my mvp with a iclear 30 I had this happen. Fresh coi and new mtn dew flavoured juice after about a week it got insanely harsh not burnt taste. Not sure if my juice was getting burnt or what but it felt like I was vaping an unfiltered lucky strike. I just went ahead and bought another tank and different brand of juice and never had the problem again. Hopefully you figure out what's going on.

When you tried a new coil, did you empty out the juice as well? Or was it the same juice you used on the previous coil? Sometimes, it's really rare though, the coil does something weird and ruins a whole tank of juice. I'm not sure what it is, maybe some gunk on it burned off weird. But all I can think of is to empty the whole thing out, rinse the tank out with hot water, fill with juice and a brand new coil. I hate losing juice, but at least it's just an EVOD's worth, so it's not that bad as far as wasting juice goes.

While you're rinsing the tank... check for cracks in the plastic as well. I've had evods crack and I honestly can't remember if the flavor changed or anything, I don't see why it would, but it's something else to check.

Oh and we can't forget that your tastes do change over time with vaping. I've gone from only being able to handle really fruity flavors to only liking dessert and sweet ones. And it literally happened overnight. I have had juice taste awesome for the first little while too, then it just starts tasting funky after awhile. I had a cola flavor from a local shop taste awesome, halfway through the bottle it just started tasting like burnt hair, just epic nastiness. I bought another bottle a couple months later, used on completely new equipment and alas, still tasted like garbage.

So, the problem is, less vapor, burning thru juice and juice turning too sweet?

Step 1. Reduce voltage on your Evod battery by increments until the eliquid loses some sweet taste. Doesn't help?
Step 2. If using a dual coil switch to single coil. Two coils will use eliquid almost twice as fast as a single-coil. Still not helping?
Step 3. VG is good at muting flavor. Mix a solution of 90%VG and 10% distilled water; add some of that solution to a sample of the eliquid (say 4ml, add 1ml) and see if that gives you more vapor and less sweet. Add more solution 1/2mil at a time to taste. (write down what you do so you can replicate it with the rest of the eliquid).

Try to buy eliquid that is at least a month beyond 'born date'. You shouldn't have to wait for a week for flavor to develop. And last but not least, an increased sense of taste could very well be your numb-to-the-world taste buds waking up, in which case all of the three steps above will still apply. If you are currently using a 1.8ohm coil, experiment with a 2.2ohm and 2.5ohm coil at the same volts as your taste perception increases.

Good luck and don't give up!

I can't really add anything much, but I did have a little chuckle at the comment

"my coil is only a week old".....

I bought 50+ Kanger heads over a year and not one of them lasted a week. Most tasted crud in 3-4 days.

That doesn't solve you entire problem though....

The taste issue might be something more boring like vaper's tongue or you've simply vaped too much of one flavour. Most liquids start to get on my nerves after about 4 or 5 days. :)

Thanks for all the responses everyone, and sorry for the late reply, I've been without internet for a few days.

I took my EVOD into a vape shop and the owner was pretty helpful. First he pushed pins through the tiny metal holes in the 'saddle' (the metal ring around the base of the clearomizer that connects to the battery, don't know what it's proper name is), and then he covered the mouthpiece with tissue and flicked it strongly a number of times to force any liquid and condensation out of the tube. The buildup on the tissue showed there was quite a bit in there.

Anyway, the sickly sweet taste was gone instantly! Bought a couple of bottles of juice from him as a thankyou and thought I'd share the solution should anyone have a similar problem in future.
