Hello,

I am considering switching over to ecigs, but I have a few concerns.

1. I see the FDA is looking into ecigs. Was is the community concensis on the probability the FDA will indeed ban ecigs?

2. I see Hong Kong has restricted (or at least I read a post on this) the export of all ecigs and fluids. Is this True, and if so is this causing a supply issue?

My main reason is I do not want to convert to ecigs only to have the supply dry up, or have the FDA outlaw the use. The price hit this would cause is not terrible, but it would just be a bummer if I find these are helping me to quit smoking (or at least consume nicoteen in a healthier way).

Thanks

No one knows what the FDA will/will not/can/cannot do.

Hong King issue is apparently not a severe problem according to a few posts by vendors.

General shortages of devices and liquids is common. Perhaps, worldwide demand is taxing manufacturing output capabilities.

Can't recommend what you should do other than find a way to 'kick the habit'. There are other non-prescription options including snus, chewing tobacco, snuff, pipes, cigars, etc.

I'm spending as much money as I can right now, just in case our supplies dry up. That way I'll be sitting on hundreds of dollars worth of useless hardware.

Wait, that doesn't sound right ...

In 3 weeks I've pretty much kicked the habit, I don't see myself going back to tobacco so it'll be worth it in the long run.

What you can do is write & call your senators then get your friends involved. Even those who don't smoke, they'll appreciate you not smelling like an ashtray and should be willing to devote 5 minutes to contacting their representatives.

IMHO

There isno way it could be policed even if it was "banned".

I'll give you an example: The last 2-3 years that I smoked analogs (no more for me!!) I routinely ordered them off the internet from EU/Ukrainian suppliers at 1/3 the cost in the U.S. These were supposedly "banned" because of the lack of tax stamps etc.....As long as I kept the order small (even with a large order the suppliers would only ship 2-3 cartons per package) there was never an issue. How many parcels enter the U.S. every day? There is no way to check them all.

Every person in the U.S. would have to be added to the Customs staff to get it done. COme to think of it, if we got jobs with Customs, we could pass through our own ecig stuff. Hmmmmm.........

I hear the Custom's agency is going to have a HUGE vaping party on 4/20/09. Watch your international shipments:D

There is a difference between declaring something illegal to own/use and killing supply lines. The FDA can do the latter quite easily by flagging suppliers shipping into the country, but the former would be a case by case basis.

If you decide to go the harm reduction route (what vaping is as it is untested/unknown), stock up in case the hammer is lowered on supplies.
