eGo battery/charger unreliable? Tired of dead batteries

I got the eGo starter kit about 6 months ago that came with two batteries and standard charger. Up until about the last month everything was ok, now I am noticing a few things:

- when the battery is dead and I put it on the charger, sometimes the light will not go from green to red. If I unscrew the batt a little it might go to red, but not always.

- even if it DOES go from green to red I can leave it charging all night and the next day it lasts about five minutes before the light starts flashing and it is dead again.

For obvious reasons this is frustrating, thinking I have a fully charged battery only to have it die right away is completely unacceptable.

Is it common for these components to fail like this? Six months doesn't seem that long to me but maybe my expectations are off.

I dont know if the issue is with the charger or the battery, but either way my confidence is completely shot when it comes to these things. :glare:

That sounds great that you got 6-months of continual use out of only 2 batteries.

I have MANY batts that I use in rotation, with different attys and with different juices to suit my vaping flavor whims of the moment. I've only had (3) batts go bad (901's) and they were used when I got them. All of my eGo's and other 510's and mod batts are going strong.

I purchased several kits thru the years and that gave me extra regular attys and T-attys plus batts and chargers.

Ah, so it sounds like I am just looking at the end of life for these batteries...thanks for the clarification.

I got both of them in a starter kit so I don't know what the details are, when I look at replacements I see some options like Black Manual Battery for Joye eGo 1000mAh XL and 650mAh and 900 mAh....are those all safe with my stock charger and atomizers?

All the ego batteries should be fine on your stock charger and attys, just different physical size and mah (how long a charge should last).

Your battery life is also going depend on the atty or cartos you are using, lower the resistance (ohms) the more amps you're drawing, which will put more strain on the battery. Depends if you vape like a "young punk hot-rodder" or a "little old lady going to church", :) how much you stress your equip makes a difference for batteries and attys / cartos.

I am not sure but I have 7 batteries that are dead in the 6 months I have been vaping. Two died within a month of purchasing. One in 16 days, found out only warranty for 14 days WTH? Never bought from them again, I have spent mega bucks so far. (DIY juice) I discovered that 2 of the batteries died due to the usb part of the charger. It got so hot that the plastic started melting. Battery got hot also and was dead. Had only been on charger for less than half an hour. Not sure but know that other countries use 240v and we only use 120 here. Conversion issues? I now check the warranties on sites before I ever purchase a battery.

I just had a RIVA battery from Liberty Flights completely die. Was also a real pain to get to charge. Always had to muck around with the battery center post to get it to contact while on the charger. Previously, I went through three or four batteries from them all under warranty. Obviously, I am not buying batteries from Liberty Flights. Bought a couple of 1000 mah batteries from puresmoker @ a month a ago with one of their chargers. So far so good.

Grrr....wonder if there is something else going on here. I got a new eGo battery from cignot about a week ago. I am seeing similar behaviour; it dies (the light starts flashing) so I hook it up to the charger. The light on the charger dosnt go from green to red right away but eventually it might. Left it charging all night and today I used it for about 1/2 hour and its dead already.

I have three different chargers for these batts, one plugged into AC and the other two are USB. I am looking at my brand new battery plugged in and the light on the charger is going from red to green back to red, back to green, back to red, etc.

No idea what is going on here; do I have a bad batch of chargers to?!

Are chargers not all created equally?

I've gone thru a few chargers. If you are having problems with you batteries, the charger could be to blame.

BTW - Some USB ports don't put out much mAh. Allways use the ones directly connected to your motherboard.

Thanks....how do I know which ports are connected the the motherboard? I dont use hubs or anything if that is what you mean.

The ones in the back of your computer are 99% of the time directly connected to your mother board. Some ports in the front of a computer are many times a single USB port split into many ports via a hub.

They don't make them, just resell them.

lol on the whole eGo type things (sort of). FYI - We vapers now have these as an option if you don't want to make your own nico-stick:

Yeah the 901's will be a problem wherever you get them from, however I stick with them (and LF) because after trying many many others I love the 901 vape quality. Someday there will be a riva 901 Version 2 with a 'fixed' center post and mosfet issues resolved/better - until then I am sticking with it and just using the warranty for dead ones.

Another thought:

Atties leak, cartos leak. Gunks up the threads. After 6 months.....

Get some ISO or something. Clean the threads on both. Also, make sure the center posts are not pushed in too far. Use a paper clip to GENTLY pry them up if needed.

Thanks for the tips. I am pretty sure my 6+ month old batteries are dead but note that I am already seeing this similar behavior with my brand new one as well. Will give it a good cleaning but am not real clear on what exactly the center posts are....is this on the battery or the charger?

Both of mine have lasted 6+ months and still going strong. When recharging make sure you disconnect the charger from the power source, screw in the Batt and then plug the charger back into the power source. It says this in the little instruction booklet. My RIVA batt (6 weeks old). Just died, LF has a 2 month warranty on them so as soon as the black batts come back in stock I get a replacement!

Ok, just ordered two more batts and a charger. My confidence is shot now and I worry everytime I leave if my battery will last most of the day or 15 minutes so I am carrying around 3 of them.

Is there a way I can test battery strength? At least if I know it has a low charge I can grab another one and not have to worry all day about it...
