My fiancee's mini 450 mAh eGo "style" battery has gone belly up. It will not charge nor will the LED come on. Testing with my multimeter yielded a voltage reading of .74 volts. I estimate the battery has seen no more than 75 charge cycles, which of course if far less than they are supposed to yield.

She had two, the L-rider one is still chugging along, but this other one, came from fasttech,

Any way to jump start this battery (so to speak)?

At 0.74 volts either the board is toast or the battery is. Either way I would let it go without trying anything. It would not be worth it to me to take the chance on it. If you can get FT to replace it, that would be great!
Or its a short

Don't hork down on the head, it crushes the rubber grommet/insulator and shorts the center pin to the frame...gently snug it down

Ditto - Sadly the eGos for me didnt always last thier promoted lifespans. ALbeit, I've only used the 900 and higher mAh, passthroughs.
I can attest to "better than the generic" absolutely!; and yes-warrantied so replaced by my US supplier. i am NOT knocking them. In fact I still keep some around as backups and for public portability purposes. Im really hard on gear, so eventually (after months of replacing eGos) I added up the total $ and redirected the $ into larger, tougher options.
Please let us know if its just the pin issue...and how it goes.

Anything?

Me...being a tinkerer and all...after exhausting all external (easy) fixes...would tear into it to see what actually did cause the problem

But that's just me

Thanks for the help. I have tried raising the center pin, still not getting any response from the charger or battery. Also, if it t'was only a center pin issue, the LED should still be working right? Especially considering the battery did register some charge.

I actually saw someone on you tube "tearing into a battery" using a hacksaw, and I wonder about the safety of that type of operation, but I'd be glad to send it to you. Would love to have an answer.

Also, I want to clarify, I am not blaming Fasttech or anything, just noting that the L-Rider is still working and both are about the same age, although I do not know which has been used more.

Hope you've got backups? or "a" backup? so you're not left flat over the weekend:oops:
Personally, I'd be too afraid to "open" a battery.
When I killed a couple of eGos like yours..the solder connections (@wires)had broken
inside the casing that gives you the pin connection to the internal battery. The action of twisting
carts/tanks on and off; chargers on and off might've been the culprit. Then again, I mightve been too
rough on them. I know thats a "fix" for a handy tinkerer w/pencil soldering iron-but I chose to replace them
at that point. The nearest Radio Shack has a battery recycle program, and my county has options too-
please however, do not chuck them in the rubbish bin. All the best to you.

Also being a tinkerer, I would at least take off the top portion with the button and threading and save that part in case you ever want to build a custom mod, build your own ohm meter, or just want something to be able to screw an RBA onto so it can sit upright while working on it.

I've bought tons of ego batteries in my time buying supplies for myself and 2 other people. It's been my experience that I have better luck with Joytech or Janty ego batteries. Joytech used to give a 6 month warranty, might be 3 months now and Janty does give a 6 month warranty on their ego batteries.

oh no no no...NEVER cut into a eGo battery, or any Li Ion for that matter, they are sealed and pressurized!

You can disassemble it without "cutting" anything

You don't need the long screw thing...an old busted clearomizer or carto for leverage would work fine..just have to wiggle the head from the battery tube

This is pretty much the universal guts of an eGo battery

The battery more often or not isn't the problem...it's the circuit board in the head..sometimes people say juice leaks on it, others find wires broken...usually easily fixable

You can even replace the PBC if you needed
