eGo + drip tip = no air flow

First off, I tried any failed to find any relevant info via search; apologies if I missed this being covered already.

Picked up a drip dip the other day at a local shop (seems to be the standard delrin one for 510's, but may not be). When I try to use it on my eGo, it completely blocks the air flow. Are there any recommendations for dripping with an eGo that will work? Short of simply removing the cone, that is... mostly because that 1) looks stupid IMO and 2) I worry about the exposed fine threads ripping apart the insides of my pockets.

What I'd like best would be a cone that's shorter or has some kind of air hole / slot built in, but I haven't seen anything[\i] in terms of alternate eGo cones (other than coloring). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I can't understand why your drip tip would be causing any blockage in air flow. Maybe it's a clogged atty? I have an eGo, and drip 90% of the time. Air flow is fine with the stock eGo cone.

The only possibility I can think of, short of a clogged atty, is maybe you are using some knock-off type drip tip. I got a stainless steel T-Tip drip tip from Super T, which is the best around. Super T invented the drip tip. They aren't the cheapest, but they last a lifetime, so it's a one-time purchase.

i've used exactly these steel and delrin tips on my egos as seen here:

and i've had no problems with airflow whatsoever even with the cone on it. it actually improved the vapor production and my atty's have never "sweat" ever since. i would like to know if the ones you have purchased are indeed for the 510/910 models and not for the 801/302 models as seen here:

I have read that some people are having problems with the cone and drip tips and/or cartomizers. They were modding the cone to make the airflow better. If I am not mistaken they were sanding them down a bit to make them shorter perhaps.

It's possible that this is a cheaper tip; it was an impulse buy (I was there for carts). However, it seems fairly easy to me to so how a tip could block air flow; the only air inlet is the space between the ID of the cone & the OD of the atomizer or the OD of the cart / tip / etc. (whichever is larger). Unless my understanding of how this thing works is way off. All you need to block air flow is a cart / tip / etc. with an OD >= the ID of the cone, right?

The draw seems a lot tighter with the plastic ones I have... but I can't imagine how a DT could affect airflow that much...

are you using the cone?

I think I may look into some alternative. However, after taking off the cone, I found I like the draw better... so I may just mod the he** out of my cone*, instead. ;)


Thanks, it's nice to know I'm not the only one. Tried searching again with google instead & did much better; boy does the forum search suck!

Yeah, some people (myself included) have problems with the Delrin drip tips blocking the airflow using the Ego + cone. I have the NHaler drip tips, not the Super T ones, so that could be the issue. Some have used a reamer to expand the cone, others have grinded down the end of the cone for more airflow.

For myself, an easy way of fixing the problem is simply to wiggle the drip tip off the atty just a little, so it is sticking out of the atty by about 2-3mm. You will see a gap form between the drip tip and the cone, and the drip tip will stay there just fine, no problem with it slipping off. It takes approx. 1 second to do, and no more airflow problems. Hacksaw 3mm (1/8th") off the top of the cone, that fixes it. The cone is good for stopping drips and leaks (very good as it goes), but with most attys it strangles the airflow. With some 'airy' attys, those with a very light draw and too much air throughput, the cone is perfect though as it cuts the airflow down.

Get two cones, one cut down for normal / tight attys, one left long for free-drawing attys.

I didn't use the cones at first because they just look to be a fashion piece - but in fact they are worth using as they catch cart leaks and overdrips that might hit the switch.

Another possibility is to chuck your drip tip into a drill, and sand it down just a hair. I actually plan on doing this with my Super-T delrin tip, though just to polish it a bit since I don't have a draw problem. If I get to it this weekend, I'll post pics.

I did sand the inside of my eGo cone just a bit, because it had a bit of crud in it. Not sure what that was, but I just wrapped some 220 grit around a dowel and cleaned it up.

I've noticed a bit of difference in both the 510 attys and carts. Some carts are snug / loose in different attys.

Guess I've been lucky, because I haven't had any kind of restriction like that -- just enough to make the draw feel a bit more like an actual cigarette, which I prefer over an easier draw.

I had a cheap delrin tip that when I put it on my ego, there was no flow at all. It completely sealed the ego. I have 2 other drip tips that work fine. It was just this one garbage one that was impossible to use. It pooled at the top too.

Somehow I lost that bad one. I really should've notified the vendor, but it was only a few bucks.

Back the cone off one or two threads, see if it's too tight.
I use both cheap and not so cheap drip tips with no issue. Yes, the cone decreases the flow, but it should not stop it. If I get a hard draw, I back it up just a bit and it's fine. Might work for you.

I have only had this airflow , drip tip problem on my eGo cone that was not really an eGo cone, it is a knock off cone but I knew that when I ordered it. It does not provide enough airflow with drip tips or cartos that my real eGo cone does. I had to have the hubby make the hole bigger for air flow.

Threads -- especially fine threads -- are in and of themselves very effective sealing mechanisms, and little if any air should be flowing in through the threaded end unless the threads aren't fully engaged.

For now, I'm just leaving the cone off while I'm vaping at my desk with the drip tip, and then replacing the cone & switching to a cart when I'm out-and-about (for which dripping isn't convenient for me anyway, at least until I can find a better liquid dispenser). Eventually, I'm just going to mod / make a new / replacement cone.

It's probably pulling the drip tip out just a little from the atomizer, which would provide a small amount of additional airflow. It's really picky; one of the four cones I have available has no issues, even with all parts completely assembled (well, I haven't tested the 4th that my wife is using, so 1 of 3 technically). A lot of it depends, I think, on how off center the cone is vs. the atomizer. If there is a significant difference, you'll still have a gap for airflow even with one of the overlapping drip tips. However, if everything is really tight to tolerance, one of these slightly-higher-OD drip tips will seal things off.

What I don't understand is why the cone wasn't just made slightly shorter; then this problem wouldn't happen at all. Probably some aesthetic consideration; I'm more of a "function" guy than a "form" guy. ;)

Like I said, all I do is wiggle the drip tip out of the atty by 1-2mm, and the airflow is back. No muss, no fuss. You can't even notice the gap the wiggling makes unless you look closely.

Many different options here, I just dont want to mess with sanding or boring/reaming, and it works for me, although, as always, YMMV.
