Never heard the Texas story. lol. I thought it was Janty designed, then manufactured by Joyetech. Since then, the two have ended their partnership, and I think the ego has "forked" into different concepts. Most egos are manufactured by Joyetech, but rebranded by vendors. The unofficial "clones" usually go by different names (riva, kgo, etc). The official clones usually mention joyetech, even if they rebrand (like Totally Wicked has the "Tornado", but they don't hide that it's joyetech).

The more I think about this, the more I get confused.

I bought a Ovale ecab recently, but I was confused when I went on Joyetech's site... and they have videos for the ecab saying it's "Ovale designed". They also carry ads for Ovale's elips. I thought that was weird.. I figured Joye might've been designing it, and Ovale just some partner. So I googled a bit, and found a website for Ovale Korea. EXCEPT, the web address is http://www.jantykorea.com . Janty Korea. On the site however, they mention Ovale, Janty, and Joye interchangably. What the hell is going on?

OK, I think the story is that Janty designed the original ego, Joyetech was their hardware partner/manufacturer. Then Ovale designed tank systems (Ego-T?), and one way or another, these three worked together with the same products. For whatever reason, Janty and Joye have ended their relationship recently, but Ovale and Joye are still in a design/manufacturer partnership. Sort of sattelite companies of each other? Janty has moved on to entirely new designs.
