Anyone find material that can be used as a replacement hat for the ego-T atty? There's one member that used tin foil and another that used a fine mesh screen. Anyone have experience with this? I've ordered some silica rope from McMaster-Carr for the wick and have heard it works well in these atty's. Seems you can keep these going longer if you know how to replace the wicks. Just looking for ideas for hat replacement while I'm gonna have these apart anyway. It seems these hats are inconsistent. Some are larger and some are smaller. It's not really a hat at all. It's a metal mesh rectangle, if you take it off and flatten it out, and its wrapped around the top part of the wick. I've had some where the wick was sticking out a bit on top and some that were flush with the top of the wick. It basically holds the wick in place, inside the piercing tube and also allows air to pass between the little channels on the inside of the piercing tube and the hat itself. There are three little channels in there. It seems it sometimes can squeeze too tightly on the wick preventing the flow of juice.

I think for now I might try to find a fine screen, cut it to size and see how it works. thanks guys

My eGo-T wicks from Cignots didn't have a hat. It was a band of mesh around the wick. They seemed to be soldered or glued to the inside wall of the tube. An dead atty is the best place to harvest mesh. You might find fine pipe brass or stainless steel screens in your local tobacco shop. I hesitate to use aluminum long term since liquids and heat are involved.

ledouxmike, Make sure you soak and clean the wicks you make from the silica rope since it wasn't manufactured to be a wick and may have some added chemicals on it.

If you have had an eGoT atty completely die, you can harvest a bunch of the hat material from inside.

The fifth piece from the left is a roll of the stuff, kinda' like a roll of TP. It's fragile, but I've been able to get long strips of it off of that piece.
