This is a really, really ignorant question. What exactly is a cartomizer? All the posts I've seen essentially assume this is common knowledge. I have been using an Ego-T for about two months, currently with the type-B mega LR atomizer. I tried Blu-Cigs before that and I think they were so bad; I feel that I was scammed. But I have only seen pictures of cartomizers and I get the impression from posts in the forum that they have provide better flavor expression and more vapor but are less convenient compared to the tank system. I know that some use the ego batteries (and atomizer??? or does the cartomizer replace it). I have absolutely no complaints about my Ego-T and it seems to me to be a simple plug and play system that works well except for a rather complicated cleaning process, but I have no experience with the cartomizer.

So I am essentially asking how the cartomizer works, what is involved in using it including disposable parts that need to be replaced regularly, and differences in vaping experience compared to my only reference, the tank system. Also I suppose I should ask what I should buy to experiment with them.

A cartomizer is an atomizer(coil) and a cartridge in one unit. They're considered disposable but there are ways around that - proper cleaning etc. but in general they have a shorter life than atomizers (LR attys are an exception). But they can be cheaper. Since you already have an eGo batt and like the LR B type cylinder atty/tank set up, you might try the EMDCC's - basically an eGo sized dual coil cartomizer that fits the eGo batt. They go for around $3 a piece and you can get them at Smoktek, Madvapes.... and other places

510 Ego Mega Dual Coil Cartomizer - 1.6 ohm, 4.5ml, - Black w/tip

eGo Mega Dual Coil Cartomizer Flat-Tip

The 'downside' on cartos is the filler - some people, like me, can taste the filler on some cartos. The EMDCC's are better in that respect for me. And the filler and coil wrap inside the cartomizer can burn - it's a long thread but you might scan it:

That said the key to using cartomizers is to keep everything wet just under flooding. And with the exception of having a few EMDCC's right now, I'm vaping the eGo-t tank system with the B type attys 90% of the time.

I don't think I will mess with it then, I am happy with what I have. I haven't been using the LR atty's long enough to see how long they last; I've been rotating 3 of them for 6 weeks and despite the blue finish coming off they are still working.

I, too, am using the eGo LR T, B version. It's the best I've found.

After hearing all the good things about Boge cartomizers, I tried them and was very disappointed. I could taste the filler material and they were often running dry. What a hassle compared to the T ! ( Still, some people swear by them.)

I had my first LR atomizer burn out after about 8 months ! I was alternating between two and the other one is still OK after almost 10 months. These are $10 "no warranty" atomizers from Cignot. No complaints there !

I have a hard time deciding which one is my favorite: 1) Type B large tank, 2) EMDCC. I tend to prefer the larger capacity of the EMDCC when I will be out for any length of time, but I think the the Type B tank edges the EMDCC out a little bit on flavor. I've used nothing but the standard resistance atomizer, and I've not managed to burn one out in months of use. Let's just say that I'm very happy with both of them.

It never hurts to do a little experimenting. Even if you stumble across some real dogs you've learned something. We've all had our share of dogs.

For example, I'm using one I like a great deal right now. It gives me everthing I want and holds a ton of liquid. The only problem is that if you lay it down it leaks. Crazy, I know. But at least I can set it in a stand by my computer and use it without having to lay it flat.
