After receiving this mod I decided to use one of my other USB cables that I had laying around because I was having to yank the provided cable out of the mod. The cable I currently use goes in and out of the mod more easily. I did find however that the new cable I was using will charge the mod but my computer won't recognize the device when using this cable but it does recognize it when I used the cable that came with it. Should I not use this cable for charging? Or does it not matter what cable are used when it comes to charging this mod?

I have an Ipower and use an itaste USB to charge it. Haven't had any issues. I use that cable to charge my istick 40w as well. I think (I could be wrong) that the cables that come with ecigs are all about the same amps so I don't see the harm in using them interchangeably. If I'm wrong I'm sure I'll be corrected. You will only be able to upgrade your firmware with the cable that comes with the ecig you want to update I would think.

Some USB cables are able to transfer data and some don't, they are strictly charging cables. I don't know the difference between them other than the ding my computer makes when I connect a device. There is no real need to use the factory cable if it has to be yanked out of the device to do nothing other than change firmware. The one that the comp doesn't recognize and just charges will work fine to charge the device. Unless your changing firmware or using the 3rd party ArcticFox software there is no real need to plug the device into a computer when there are lots of IPhone USB adapter to plug into a wall socket.

+1 to @AlterUrEgo Some USB cords are intended for charge-only use and have no wires in the data positions of the connector. 3 gets 5, that's why it won't work to update. It is possible for charging to fail, because some cables are intended for only X watts (use small wire) and can't carry more current. But data? No, there's no appreciable current on the data channels. I suspect the cable that won't update with the computer is either broken, or simply was never built for the purpose. And yes, don't use a cord you have to yank out of the connector. Those connectors are not all that robust and, if you break it, your mod's a paperweight.

In the past, I have had to USB-Mod charge at the beach house (got a new charger now b.t.w so the old one goes on holiday!) and guess which of my mods no longer charge using this method? - yup, Eleaf. All of them now are broken. 3 x iSticks, 1 x Pico.
Treat Eleaf mods with great care if you choose or are forced to USB charge.
Thankfully the Pico isn't an issue with pulling out the battery.

All the USB charging connection in any mod are very delicate, another reason not to buy a mod with internal battery(s). I have a couple IStick50's that have internal batteries and the batts have pooped out IMO long before their time. I took the Istick apart looking into replacing the batts and see the USB charge port that is held together with hair sized connections with next to no solder holding the entire piece in place so breaking it is very easy.
For the money spent on a internal battery mod you can buy a charger, few batts and a mod and get way more life than several of the mods that have internal batteries. Those Istick50's lasted maybe 6-8 months each before they started to act up. I got Istick100TC that a couple years old, IPV2 thats few years old and well...a couple provaris that are over 4 years old....all with removable batteries and still work, just have to replace the 5 dollar batts every so often thats way more cheaper than putting a perfectly working mod into the trash cause the internal batts crapped out.

It's mad isn't it? Just cost cutting with no sense (or maybe they do it on purpose?)
I've never understood certain mass production attitudes.
A normal person would say... let's spend 50c on that to make it better and charge $1 more.
Is another $1 on top of the retail price going to destroy your sales worse than bad customer satisfaction?

I also prefer external batteries that you can charge on a charger. It does seem to me that those mods work longer, I've had several internal batteries that I've had difficulties with. It seems to me that as internal (and external) mods are pushing more power these days, and I wouldn't be comfortable with a USB charger anymore (not that I use my box mods to their highest capacities, I don't. I'm a very low watt smoker. There's something too I like about the heaviness of my mod, I haven't dropped it once, and I used to drop stick batteries all the time (they are round, often, LOL). I'm not saying don't get an internal battery but do your research and even though some advertise higher wattages now that only makes me more uneasy about the USB cable. :) That's just me though. Even my phone (a few years old) has less battery life than it did....
