I just decided to do a UK google search on electronic cigarettes! I was an average user, pretending I had never heard of the e-cigarette until now, I looked at 10 pages before ending my search Nowhere did I find our favourite UK suppliers, no mention of totally wicked, not even e-cigs.co.uk or any Janty resellers!

Seems like a bunch of desperate suppliers bigging up their pathetic prices and tricking the general public into buying an inferior overpriced piece of crap!! I found a penstyle for £125 and that wasn't Ruyan!!

Ohh and Gamucci was mentioned in alot of them. What comments I found seemed to think refilling didn't exist and you HAD to buy the overpriced cartridges!

If only we could tell them GET OFF THAT WEBSITE and get a generic as your first e-cig and you don't have to pay £3 for a pack of 5 cartridge 'refills'

No wonder the e-cig sometimes gets bad press its so frustrating GRRR!!!

Strange, I just tried it and The Electronic Cigarette Company was first on the list. That was the only decent supplier in a prominent position though.

I have noticed quite a few suppliers' sites have some dodgy HTML behind them. If they coded the sites with more attention to semantic markup such as heading tags they might be a bit more successful. Google uses the markup as one of the factors in page ranking.

This tool mimics what a search engine will think a site is about when it reads it.

SEOmoz | Term Extractor SEO Tool

For TECC the top 3 terms are:

1. cigarette
2. electronic
3. uk

For ecigs.co.uk the top 3 are:

1 mini
2 vaporiser
3 pack

Jason has more meaningful markup on his front page so he's doing better.

If any suppliers are reading this and are interested there's a good article here on semantic markup:

Semantic Markup and Semantic Coding Guidelines for SEO - Barry Wise NJ SEO and Marketing Consultant

It's not all there is to Google ranking, links back to your site play a major part but the markup is something suppliers can change themselves and it would make a big difference to their sites' performance. It will also make them easier to use for people with disabilities.
