Hey!
This was my first E-cig purchase. Online, through the Envy website. Ordered a 510 kit the next day and both arrived same day. On with the review!
These kits are readily available at many smoke shops, convenience stores and gas stations. The price seems to be anywhere from $25 to $50 for a starter kit. I paid $50 for mine, and $10 more for an additional 5 pre-filled carts. They are appealing since they're basically the same length and width as a king size cigarette. They are packaged in a cigarette style pack that is familiar to the average smoker. Plus they are black with a green LED. Neato for sure, and why I bought a starter pack in the first place. Far as I know, this is a branded M403. These kits come with one battery, one atomizer, USB charger, and 5 carts.
Packaging and Aesthetics: A+
Excellent. Simple, elegant. Perfect for someone looking to switch over to e-cigs from 'analogs'. The 'cigarette' itself is very close to the size of an American Spirit or Dunhill, just a fraction of an inch longer. Awesome black and green color scheme. Kit also comes with an instruction card and an Envy branded 'eGo' advert. All in all very slick. So far so good.
Use, Taste, Etc.:C
Basic 3 piece design. Battery, atomizer, cartridge (non-refillable). The atomizer lasted one day. One day. I was only able to make it through 1.5 carts before it died. Had an awful burnt paper taste out the gate. This improved a bit after 10 or so pulls, maybe the atty primer.
Non-refillable carts. These are advertised as lasting about one pack of cigarettes each. No way AT ALL. Lasted maybe 2 or 3 normal cigarettes. Flavor was similar to the usual USA mix that comes with this type of kit, however had a burnt taste. Vapor production low. This may have to do with bad atty.
Battery life is not very long, as you'd expect in this size range. It lasted about an hour or so of use between the charges I was able to to do before it went kaput. Having just the one battery exacerbates this further, as you can't have one on charge while the other is in use.
*EDIT* Not sure what happened, but just before I was about to package this back up and send it back to the manufacturer I decided to try again blowing everything out (battery and atty). Somehow it came back to life. Something must have been clogged? So, at this moment it is functioning. Changed score from F to a C as although it's working the flavor, vapor and battery life are still pretty weak compared to my 510.
Value: C-
After a few days research and being new to all this, I've found vastly better deals on 510 kits, eGo kits etc. You only get one battery, atty, charger and 5 low yield non-refillable carts with this kit. It would be nice if Envy included 2 batteries and atomizers at least, since that appears to be the standard for entry level kits in this price range.
There is a 1 year warranty however, and that has influenced the value score. I'll report back with how the return process and warranty aspects go.
*EDIT* Customer service update. To their credit, someone from Envy gave me a phone call in response to my email requesting help and or warranty info, rather than just email a reply. I received the response pretty quickly. I would have had to ship back the battery, atty and charger at my own expense. They would then test the product and if it were a manufacturing defect send back a new kit. All in all fairly standard, but frustrating to someone trying to quit smoking. The combined time would be about a few weeks from original order, plus my return, their testing, and then shipment back to me.
Summary:
Great aesthetics, packaging and appeal to smokers looking to switch over to vaping. Overall use and quality...not so amazing.
