The only reason EU TPD campaigners invited the cigarette manufacturers trade association to participate in their 2/25/13 event was so they could portray any and all opponents of the proposed TPD (including all e-cig users and tobacco harm reduction advocates) as pro cigarette smoking and pro cigarette industry.

The one bright spot there was that the ENVI Chair, Mathias Groote, supports us and presented his opinion.

However he has limited power to affect the progress of the TPD. It is important to publicise what a hugely damaging effect it will have on public health if it goes through with the ecig refill ban (which is, in effect, a ban on ecigs) in place.

And from the ethical point of view we should also support removal of the Snus ban, although I think that would be much harder to take care of. The main problem is that Snus consumers are very poorly organised and seem to have no public voice, unlike us. If anything it demonstrates the effect an EU ban has on consumer numbers in different countries: it basically destroys them. We are extremely lucky we got going before a ban on ecigs was able to be bought.

One of the important names at the EU (I think a Rapporteur) mentioned that she intended to get the TPD through all the committees and adopted "before the end of the session", which I interpret to mean by the end of the year? This would not be a good thing at all...

The one thing positive I saw was that some MEP's raised the ecig issue and this shows our letters and emails are having an efect. Just because they were dismissed doesn't mean that they are now sidelined, this requires the vote of all MEP to pass and if enough can be persuaded to our view then we can effect a change in the directive. More letters and emails, then more again. Lets keep the fight going, maybe we can avoid a legal battle by never letting this become law.

Please try to take this viral in the EU

It is on this Facebook page but I don't really know how to keep it visible and highlighted.

Btw, Matthias Groote registered and made a post in a big German E-Vapors' Forum today. I think that this very rarely happened before.

Can you see this? Not sure whether you must be registered. Elektronisches Rauchen Forum
