Ah ... the under-age joys of the sneaky Woodbine behind the bike shed at school during the dinner break - and the suspicious sniffs of the teacher as he loitered around my desk afterwards. "You've been smoking boy! HeadMasters' Office - NOW!'

We all knew what that meant. Six of the best and a solemn promise (extracted under duress, I might add), to never do it again...

"You (whack) will (whack) not (whack} smoke (whack) in (whack) my (whack) school".

He was an aged authoritarian, that one. Ex WW1-type Major with a penchant for corporal punishment. He smoked a brand called 'Passing Cloud'. A peculiar-smelling, oval shaped cigarette, that he used to light up and savour as he studiously considered, and inevitably meted out, the punishment.

Pity the Germans never got him... I digress. In the Sixties, everyone smoked. At work, in the pub, at home.... It was unusual to find someone who didn't smoke in those days. How times have changed with the advent of vaping. Six months smoke-free now and looking to be re-educated.

Appreciate the reply @ShowMeTwice. This is a whole new world for an oldie like myself, especially when you are coming at it from the other side (and so late to the game). Thank you.
You're very welcome. You will find many on ECF who are more than willing to help with any vaping questions you might have. There are a good number of "oldies" on ECF.

You can always start a thread for your questions in any of the appropriate sub forums. We have many located under General Vaping Discussion, E-Liquid, Devices and more. Start on the main ECF page and drill down.

Hi @xcoffa. I got a kick out of your post. I never got whacked at school for smoking but there certainly was an ongoing sneaky smoke strategy for a large number of us at my high school. That was more years ago than I care to admit. Glad you're here!

Welcome to ECF.

Love your story mate. Guessing you're in the UK. I grew up in Sunderland, smoking Woodies behind the bicycle shed at school. The bicycle shed was at the far end of the sports fields so there was plenty of time to clear the smoke out of your lungs on the way back. They couldn't whack you just for the smell though, only if they caught you at it. I loved Passing Cloud, when I could afford them. Looked them up on the web a few years ago and they aren't around anymore. We had a teacher with Parkinsons, we called him the Wobbler. I feel bad about that now. He chain smoked in the classroom.

Don't know how old you are, I'm 72 and loving the vape life. Anything you want to do someone here will fill you in.

Hi Mick, and great to hear from a fellow fossil. Yup. I'm a same-aged Brit from the opposite coast to yourself. Brand new to vaping and, much to my surprise, actually enjoying it.

Long story short - a spotty teenager (who passes himself off as my GP), told me that I had to quit the fags because they were bad for my health. I didn't have the heart to tell him that 50-odd years of inhaling asbestos, yarn fibres and sulphurous fumes in the local shipyard, textile mill and steelworks had probably got more to do with my lungs being shot than anything else ... but... well, here we are!

Got to admit that it all seemed a bit daunting at first but, with the likes of you supportive guys, I guess I'm going to be in good hands. All that I'm short of now is a degree in electronics, a doctorate in molecular chemistry and a thesauras to read up on all of the more obscure terms. lol.

Thank you for the welcome.
