So i have ordered the EVOD and it should be here any day now, I have researched on it quite a bit and choose it over the viva nova v2.5... hope i made the right choice but getting back to subject now :)

I have read quite a bit that you should remove one of the top wicks as this will prevent dry hits or burnt taste, I then have read others say that its not necessary

I'm going to be running the EVOD (2.5ohm attys) through an ego twist with mainly 50/50 juice, so is this necessary?

and if it is necessary let me make sure I got it right... I would just remove one wick which is the first top wick (to my understanding there is 3 wicks, 2 removable "flavor" wicks and 1 wick attached to the coil that should NEVER be removed) if this is the correct procedure do I just take it apart and do so or can i just use tiny pliers to pull one out.

and also if it is recommended to do so, I must remove that one whole wick correct? not just a little strand or two from it

thanks in advance for those that will help me, Im looking forward to receiving the EVOD... as I had the replaceable ego c atomizers and what can I say.. lol there garbage at least for me they are. They die out quick start getting dry hits from new attys and always get like two duds out a brand new pack of 5 from the ego c head wicks. dry burn and this and that so much pain and no results!!!

happy to make the change to the EVOD and hope to have piece of mind once they arrive, and I hope they will be as good as I think they are!

It's next to impossible to get a dry hit off a bcc including Evods. They wick withing a minute or two from filling. Personally I do NOT remove the flavor wicks. You're likely to end up with a battery well filled with juice if you do.

My daily rotation: Protank on Vamo, T3 on EGo, T3S on eGo & Evod on eGo. No leaks, no wicking issues with any juice regardless of PG/VG ratio. Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the quick reply Glen, the reason why I asked this question is that the EVOD I purchased is from Mt Baker Vapor here's a link to it
Kanger Evod Rebuildable Clearomizer - Mt Baker Vapor - Electronic Cigarettes

and on the bottom of the listing it states this:

**Expert Tip** Removing a small amount of the wick that is sitting on top of the coil will reduce dry hits and help juice feed. **feel free to ask us if you have any questions**

I've also seen various reviews and videos on youtube that recommend to remove one wick and have seen threads about people saying its not necessary  so im still slightly confused and want the best experience out of it when I get my hands on it in the next day or two. :vapor:

I've also read that generally its only needed for thick juices... or at least that's what the majority say in this thread:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...36477-new-protank-should-i-remove-1-wick.html

considering I will be using 50/50 juice I think its not necessary but really I'm still confused and not sure what to go by, based on all the various things everyone is saying

Do not remove the top wick. Not sure why the listed this tip on their website. The Evod works perfectly as is. This tip is usually advised to ProTank users or to people who use very thick ejuice. It may also cause leaking and gurgling by removing the top wick. The Evod is a master piece of it's self. The Evod coil works perfectly as is.

The Evod coil has a nice draw. If you really want an airy draw use a ProTank coil in it.

Just for the record, I have 7 EVODS all with Evod coils using 50/50 e juice on all of them. No issues with the coil as is. Only once I had a leak and that was because I chain vaped the hell out of it.

Some have reported issues attributed to the flavor wick, but I agree, use it as is. If you have problems wicking a very thick juice, removing part of the flavor wick is worth trying. Worst case, you pour out any remaining juice and replace it.

But too little flavor wick could certainly cause leaking down to the battery...

I have a handful of Evods, both Kangers and Fasttech knockoffs - have never removed a wick from any, using mostly 50/50 MBV juices but have a couple Villain Vapor flavors not labeled but that seem pretty thick, so I'm guessing they're VG heavy.

No dry hit issues from me unless I get overzealous and don't let juice fully soak in for 2-3 minutes after refilling a tank after cleaning the head in hot water. Occasional gurgles, but mainly when I leave my e-cig in my car's center console for more than 10 minutes or so (it's been pretty hot in SoCal lately). A little drop of juice on my Ego battery heads is usual, but not much and easily dabs off with a paper towel.

I'm using standard, non VV batteries, and I've been having better luck since switching out my coils from 2.4 to 1.8 ohm, though I'm not one of those pro guys with a testing device to get obsessive over every coil.

My advice: try and vape it out of the box. If you don't like it, pull out a replacement head and try the wick removal trick to see if it goes better. After a few weeks of fiddling around with different delivery devices, I'm pretty much 100% committed to Evods for my standard juices and Protanks for my cracker flavors.

Expert tip??? lmao The only expert you need is right in front of you in the mirror.

In my experience Kanger bcc's ALL wick extremely well right out of the box and even better once they've been rinsed, degunked and dry burned. I'm no expert, just my experience.

Have tried it both ways. I have a couple of juices that removing the top flavor wick gets me better flavor & others that it makes no difference. Additionally, I don't get any more leakage than the normal spot or so on the battery post either way. Just my :2c: & YMMV.
Take the info you need from all the advice & of course,,,,,,

VAPE ON !!!! :vapor:

I have never found it necessary to remove any of the top wicks, and I'm running really thick VG through these things.

But to answer your question about what to remove from where, should you want to go there:

The majority of the wick runs through the center of the coil. You do not want to remove any of that wick or you will turn your Kanger into a leaking mess.

On top of the coil will be two very small strands of wick. That's your target. To get at that wick you first need to wiggle the vent tube back and forth to remove it. From where you removed the vent tube from the base, that's where the wick and coil is located. Use something like a toothpick to gently poke at wick on the very top. The two strands should easily fall off. If you are digging around or pulling on things you are trying too hard or in the wrong place. Line the vent tube back up with the base - silicone gommet back toward the base - and wiggle back and forth to reseat it. Check to make sure the tube is straight.

Hold onto those two strands in case you change your mind. To make it easier to get them back into place wet them with some water or your liquid to make them easier to handle.

I've experimented with replacing those top wicks with cotton (both cotton balls and yarn)... it's tricky getting the right thickness with the cotton balls, but it works pretty well... and saves a coil if the top wicks get messed up after pulling them out to give the coil a quick cleaning/dry burn. And as long as it stays wet, cotton holds up well (doesn't burn)

100% cotton yarn, Peaches & Cream from Wally World is the exact right diameter to fill that space too.

I, too, have used the cotton yarn LeoRex mentions, it works well.

The first time to tear down the head for a dry burn, the factory flavor wicks will probably fall apart.

Since I clean frequently and dry burn occasionally, I find the yarn a quick and easy replacement for the flavor wick. And cheaper to stock! While I do rewind coils, for those who don't, but need new flavor wicks, a skein of that yarn will probably last a lifetime.

Hey glen-
Are you talking about cleaning them right out of the box? We just got a few evods and the first two heads we used seemed to go "burny" in flavor way to quickly for my liking... the 3rd has been running strong though.

If the flavor is muted or dry, try removing a piece of wick at a time until you get it right (vape it for a while before removing more wick). I had to remove a few pieces of wick from my EVOD to get the flavor I wanted. You can also flip the gasket that sits right above the wick. If it starts gurgling, you are leaking and have taken it too far so you simply need to put a peice of wick back or flip the gasket back.

The EVOD is amazing after a bit of tinkering (compares with dripping), but I use 70% VG/30% distilled water.
