I tried that and i am either getting odor or a drop or two on my battery connection. One or the other. The odor is most likely coming from the silicone cap that is making contact with the top wick. I think i may just have to live with the leaks. It is not a lot and hopefully my battery can withstand it.

I'm not sure you can avoid a small amount of juice from reaching your battery. Put a piece of wick back in it and flip silicone o-ring upside down so it no longer contacts the wick.
If you're actually burning / charring the silicone, maybe it's just a bad coil. Try another (or rewind your own, if you have the materials.)
Or try soaking it in denture cleaner, followed by a thorough hot water rinse and dry.

Vape and go. Forget the wick babies. I think a lot of that comes from people sucking on them too hard. Demanding more and getting less.
vaping is not combustion. The harder you vape the less you get. Use a mirror to see this principle at work. The slower you vape the more vape you get.
You will learn to like an airy draw though. Try drilling out the airholes with a 1/16 drill bit.

On the old coils, I never had to touch them... but the new Protank style coils kind of suck... I put one on my eVod, which has worked like a champ from day one... dry, nasty hits. I put in my old coils again and shelved the new coil.

Before removing the top wicks it gave me a foul mahince/oil plastic smell. I removed the top wicks and it now vapes like a champ. However, if you remove the wicks you will notice slight gurgle and leakage on the battery when the tank goes below 30-40% full. There is an easy fix for this. Just unscrew the evod, blow through the battery end to remove the excess juice through the mouthpiece and the gurgling and leaks are gone! Repeat this whenever you feel it gurgling. My evod now performs on the level of my victory VT and iclear dual coils and may just have become my go to all-around clearo. I must also add that both older evod and newer evod/protank coils work just as well after taking out the flavor wicks.

Whenever I clean an EVOD head for the first time, I like to ditch the flavor wicks entirely, as they tend to fall apart when I clean them. Then I replace it with a cotton wick fashioned out of a bit of cotton ball, then replace that when I clean it again.
I tried that. The foul odor was gone but the dry hits were still there. Removing the top wicks completely works best for me. The flooding/gurgling/leaking only happens once per fillup and takes 2 seconds to fix by blowing out through the battery end.
Thinking of trying some BCC's and have read kanger is going to only the PT long stem heads for both evod/PT.Besides post above(SD13) what to most of u evod users think is best the short stem or long on evod or for that matter on PT too?
I never once had an issue with the short stem (other than a man. defect). They would vape great, and if it started to gurgle, a gentle cleaning and a delicate fluff of the wick ends got it back.
Dry hits may imply that the ports on the side of the coil are a shade too big (compared to the older ones) for the wicks, pinching the wicks, making them less able to draw in fluid. I'll try another new coil soon and see if I just had a bad one.

I would suggest using a thicker liquid than 70/30. 50/50 has a larger sweet spot between Dry Hit and Gurgle.
I second that.... I accidentally ordered 80/20 and it pretty much ran through my eVod like a street vendor burrito. 70/30 is thicker, but not by all that much obviously, so I would expect some leaking problems.
I have 50/50 now and the only time I get any leaks is when it is time to clean the coil. The only time I've got dry hits is when I've, well, run the thing dry.
