It's pretty much the nature of Chinese QC unfortunately. I've got 6 eVods with about 3 weeks of heavy to moderate use on them. One popped within three or four days, another lasted a week or so, and the other ones have been cleaned/dry burned 3 or 4 times each and are still going strong. Good news is the heads are pretty cheap or, if you're the enterprising sort, they're a snap to rebuild. One of the perks of rebuilding of course, is that you can wrap a neat coil that you know will last a good long while.

... or is there something I should be checking that im not aware of?

It should be very easy and fast to check if your Evod (atty/carto/rba) is dead with a multimeter, they are pretty cheap.
While checking you also will find out the true resistance.

And after that you can explore any other options.

Exactly what aheatedatom said, and it's good to get in the habit of making sure the head is firmly screwed into the base whenever you refill or clean the eVod too. Sometimes it tries to wiggle loose.

If you're using an eGo-style battery, you don't need to screw the eVod tightly onto it... just torque it down gently until you feel resistance, give it another half-turn and then stop. For that matter, over-tightening any piece of any clearo is a bad idea, there are lots of little silicon gaskets that can get smooshed and give you problems down the road.

One of the only issues I had with the EVOD was when the coil wire came a little loose and ended up in the threads where the head screws onto the base. It acted similar to what you described, only working when attached loosely. What I realized was that I couldn't screw the base completely onto the tank. That was because the head was not screwed onto the base tightly due to the coil wire. I tucked that back up inside and all was well.
