ex dipper needing help

well i have been on the e cig for about a month now and havent had a dip or analog since i started. well i have been doing great if i get a craving ill vape. but it seems now i am craving a to have something in my front lip and in my back pocket. i dipped for about 6 years before i quit and started vaping so the feeling of a round can of dip in my back pocket is normal and it feels strange for nothing to be there.
as far as the needing something in my lip i cant use seeds as i dont like them and well ive never really been a fan of gum.

i noticed the otherday at my local pharmacy that they had a can something like dip but without tobbaco and without nicotine. i dont remember right off what it was called or made of but it was basically the same as dip just without the bad stuff. what do yall think about that it would fix both problems and i will get my nic fix from vaping but i can put a dip of this stuff in when i have a super craving? only problem is i dont want to tear the inside of my gum line up anymore than i have to. i also want to make sure i dont end up back on dip any way possible.

Part of making the substitution of vaping for an analog or chew is not all about the nicotine, as you are finding out, but the physical actions you have a habit of going through that has previously ended up giving you a dose of nicotine. You brain has learned that when you reach in your pocket, open the can and go through the motions that nicotine is on the way.

When you first start vaping the primary purpose is to get that nicotine in a safer way. And vaping is the one thing that can cut the nicotine urge immediately so your not jagging for the nicotine blood level. But even when your body is placated with the nicotine you are vaping you brain may not be totally convinced its getting what its demanding because you are not going through the motions that usually deliver the nicotine. This is basically what people refer to as the 'social' part of the habit.

You may need to find things to do with your PV that 'bridge' that gap and associate your new physical motion with the idea that 'the nicotine is coming'. Chances are that getting a can of non-nicotine chew will not build that bridge for you. I would guess that it might allow you to go through the motions while you get the nicotine from the vape, but your not doing then good thing of training your brain to forget about that can and you may actually find that a can of non-nicotine replacement makes you want to have a real tobacco chew more then just letting the vape become your replacement.

As many of us know 'hang with it' is what most often drove us back to analogs because we just could not 'hang' long enough, but that does not mean that we can't take a proactive step to making our brain realize that what its getting and what you are doing is just - or better - then what you were. Its a bit easier for those switching from analogs to e-cigs since there is a lot of motion and holding in common between an analog and a PV and if you have a really hard time you get a PV that is cigarette like.

Of course, your situation is a bit different as the PV does not feel like a can.

There are things that you can do when that urge is present and you want those familiar things. If you consciously make the effort to pick up your battery instead of reaching in the pocket for a can and telling yourself this is the 'new can' that can help. You could also (if you have a manual battery that you can do the 5 clicks with and turn off the button, or have an automatic) keep the PV in the pocket that used to hold the can. Might want to plan a bit and not do that in some situations, but in those where you really feel the 'can' need put the PV in and out of that pocket. And remember your teaching your brain so even if you are just answering the urge to move something in and out of the pocket, when you do vape at least a little bit so your brain starts associating the nicotine hit with the PV.

If the feel of the PV is odd because you are used to a can, you might want to look into a box PV - although square it would probably sit in your hand more like a can would and they stand up easily to being sat on so the back pocket is not a dangerous place. To be honest I keep my PV in my back pocket quite a bit and have sat down with it still there many times without an issue - at least the battery - there is some risk to cracking your clearomizer if using one though.
 
I agree with what Stormwench says. It is not all about the nicotine. I know when I started vaping, I actually over did it because my brain didn't seem to adjust to not having the "actions" associated with "smoking". Until just recently I still kept wanting to reach for the pack and a lighter. It just didn't feel right to be puffing without having lit something. But now I am fine with it, the need for certain actions has finally went away. For you, you might want to put an empty can in your pocket but then take it out for a while, try to wean yourself from that need. But the main thing is take it one day at a time and give yourself enough time to adjust. If you really, really want to quit, that part of you will keep you strong. It also helps to have others to talk to that know what your dealing with so rely on that as well.
Just take it slowly and keep your eye on the prize and you'll do great!

I'm still dipping at work, unfortunately, but dammit I'm going to quit that soon. I find myself reaching for my can every time my computer is cranking on something for a minute or two, which is often. I quit dipping once years ago and it was, for me, harder than quitting smoking. I started up again a couple of years ago just as a nicotine substitute when I was on a trip and knew I wouldn't be able to smoke for long periods of time. Never stopped. Quitting that is next and I'm not looking forward to it but I think I can sneak a stealth vape in at work to help.

I remember when I quit last time I used, of all things, rubber bands as a dip substitute just to have something in my lip!
