Hello, A big problem for me with smoking is that it really hurts my cardio health for things like cycling and mountaineering. I imagine e-smoking still has some impact on cardio-vascular activities, but is better. What have peoples experiences been on how it affects them compared to analogs? On a scale of 1-10 if analogs make going up a big staircase more difficult at a 10, how about e-cigs? Thanks

Nicotine still has an effect on the cardiovascular system no matter what method you use to take it.

That being said, a big part of the issue with smoking analogues and working out is that burning tobacco introduces a lot of CO2 into your blood. That means less oxygen getting to your muscles. Furthermore, the current research suggests that PVs deliver a lot less nicotine to your blood than smoking. It appears to take 10 drags off of a PV to equal the same amount of nicotine you get from 1 drag off an analogue.

Personally, I'd estimate that if smoking is a 10, vaping is probably closer to a 3. But I'm not basing that on any hard evidence, just my own anecdotal experience.

I am so glad to see this thread as I have been contemplating just the same thing!

I have been an avid exerciser (15 years) and a pack a day smoker for 25 years.
It has only recently begun to interfere with my cardio capacity the past year or two. (I SHOULD get a lung x ray, but havent the nerve)

In any case, Since I started with the ecig, and using it in the morning instead of an an analogue, I feel an IMMEDIATE benefit to my breathing while doing cardio. I have always been the kind of smoker that wakes up and lights up immediately upon rising. That first one of the day was always the one I was most afraid to give up. I am sure everyone or most everyone has at least ONE cigarette during their day that is the most loved. (I cant believe I just typed that. Sounds sick.)

I still get the nic rush, and altho its not as great with my morning cup of coffee, I figure I can wait til after my workout to light up an analogue if I REALLY need one.

I'm an all natural home based body builder and do a fair amount of cardio, quit smoking 6 weeks ago after 35 years..my only major unhealthy behavior in all those years. Granted, I'm someone who drives docs crazy..all that smoking and not a single sign of it causing any trouble for me..my quitting was more economic! However, I do find cardio seems less taxing, so I now feel the need to do more of it to stay challenged..I don't know if that's good or not! I do tend to push too hard...

Stopped smoking and started vaping on April 1. I've exercised regularly for years and notice a definite improvement in my cardio-vascular endurance since making the switch. Hiking is easier, and recovery from an hour of basketball is much quicker. This is all anecdotal, of course, but it stands up to reason that this improvement is attributable to the vaping. Should I thank Trog for improving my health? :D

Sounds like my gramma... lol not the body building part :p just the years of smoking (60+) not causing her any problems! She's 78 and her dr shakes his head at her because she is perfectly healthy except for a cough.
