Extreme newbie looking for insight...

Just want to share a bit of my story....I am in my 40's and have been smoking since 16, 2+ packs a day for about 15 years...For the last ten years I have tried just about everything to quit smoking...cold turkey, patches, gum, pills, laser and hypnosis...I finally gave up and resolved myself to being a smoker because the longest I ever went without was about 2 months....

(flash forward to present day)...
15 days ago, I had an event to attend with my 9 year old daughter and 2500 other Girl Scouts, where we were locked inside a shopping mall overnight for a huge slumber party...I knew I would not be allowed to smoke and had planned on purchasing an disposable E cigarette for this event...just to get me through the event without going homicidal....lol

A friend of mine who vapes, told me that she had two set ups and she would let me borrow one for the weekend, so I didn't have to go buy one. Needless to say...I am HOOKED!! After the event, I bought the Evod BCC starter pack with two complete set ups and 3 bottles of liquid....I still had 2 packs of cigarettes in my purse at the time of purchase...I smoked a total of 8 cigarettes since purchase of my Evod....I gave away the remaining 4 days later....(yeah, go me!)

Of course as a newbie, I have so many questions and I am glad to have found the site...I am sure I can get the answers to most of them here, but my most pressing question right now is....why is it that some e juices are super thin, almost water like, and others are thick like pancake syrup? What is the difference and does one give you a better "experience"? (for lack of better word)

Not 100% sure, but one thing I noticed is that the balance between PG and VG makes a difference. PG will give you more flavor, less vapor, more throat hit. VG is less flavor, smoother hit, move vapor. But having a more VG dominant juice will give you a thicker juice from what I've seen. Not totally sure.

As far as experience goes, that's all preference. I prefer a 50/50 blend. It's a good balance.

Congrats and welcome....The difference between VG/PG ratios can effect the taste of the juice as PG carries flavor more and gives more throat hit and VG makes bigger clouds. Some people do have issues with either PG or VG...the most popular mix seems to be 50/50. I personally can not do high VG juices as they make my chest heavy and prefer 70%PG or higher

Welcome and congrats!!

Most juices are made with two ingredients and flavoring.

PG = Propylene Glycol
VG = Vegetable Glycerin

PG is thinner and carries the flavors better and also give more of a "throat hit".
VG is thicker and creates more vapor.

Most juices have a combination of both and with some juice vendors you can choose the percentages. 50/50 is a good starting point. Or if you already know you want more throat hit, go with 80PG/20VG.

Hey i love your story, and am so stoked for you. I would be happy to answer any and all questions you may have... feel free to pm me whenever, I'm not always active in the sections of the forum but i always check my messages.

The short answer is the pg/vg ratios of the liquids is what causes the difference.

The long is propylene glycol is a thinner liquid that better delivers, or carries the flavors in your liquid and will help to deliver more of that throat hit similar to smoking. The vegetable glycerin is what gives you more vapor will give a smoother, more mellow feel but does not carry flavor as well, will actually mute some flavors but has a natural sweet aspect that it carries.

I found that i preferred to use a 50/50 blend of the two when I was using my protank or various clearomizers. Depending on how frequently you vape or chain vape, higher vg may not be as good of an idea. The biggest factor in my personal opinion as to what percentage is best depends on what type of atomizer you are using. For example now i just drip, i don't use any tanks or clearomizers, i just purely drip. I find i prefer a lower nic level with a high 30/70 pg/vg blend. I know people who drip that prefer a 50/50. It all depends on you in the end.

Again feel free to pm me if you have any questions about anything. There are many resources out there to help. I recently joined a group of hosts on vapeon.tv there is a show every night, there are giveaways and we just like to help people out. My first show is this Saturday at 11pm EST and runs until 1am est. Feel free to drop in then or whenever if you'd like.

**Moderators** Please if by some chance that was against TOS I apologize, i am on my phone and can't check at the moment. If that was against TOS please do not delete my whole post please just edit out what is.

You guys rock! I can't wait to be able to get into other areas of the site....for now, I am experimenting with different flavors... Different ratios and different nicotine levels...I figure I was spending $35+ dollars a week in cigarettes....now I can spend that in e juice until I find my "happy place"...lol...

Like everybody said, it's usually the PG/VG ratio, with higher vegetable glycerine amounts being thicker.

Usually.

Some VG liquids also feature a few drops of distilled water, so they're thinner than you'd think. Add enough distilled water and they can be as thin as PG. So you can't always call it PG just by the viscosity.

Congrats on "accidentally" quitting, by the way!

Congratulations and welcome to ECF! Just skimming what others have helped with (all great btw) I'll just add one thing. The thinner (probably more PG) juice will wick better. IE: you won't have to take as many primer puffs to get it started wicking) You're thicker juice, conversly, will probably require brief primer puffs to get it wicking smoothly. If the thicker juices you have (more VG) aren't wicking well for you, add a drop or two of distilled water to thin them out. This shouldn't decrease flavor any (most DIYers find it might even increase flavor oddly) but will lower the nic level just a bit... shouldn't really notice it.

30+ years....thanks for that input???I have experienced the gurgling/popping once in a while, so now I know what is causing that....you guys are awesome!

Normal use will cause it also including letting the tank get to low, I try and top off at a third of a tank. But I have really flooded one out while priming.

I've learned tons on here so far and still don't know a fraction of most on here. It's a great place...
